So they can read minds now?

How will they know if it is "I don't want a baby" or "I don't want a left handed baby."

It seems to me that they wasted a lot of time on that.

This law would require women who are carrying a child with anencephaly to give birth to a child who will die almost immediately after being born, 4-5 months after finding out that their unborn child is not viable and is doomed to non-life.

It is open season on abortion now. Every anti-abortion legislator out there is trying to get a law to the Supreme Court in the hopes of overturning Roe V Wade.

You're reading too much into it. It will be used to selectively protect any fetus in those categories because to abort them is obviously discrimination. That will only leave white babies so they'll need another law to save them.

Meanwhile, the browns will reproduce even faster then the white people having all the abortions.

Pretty sure Kentucky lawmakers wouldn't be able to make it to the podium without crawling if Drew was the gov.

Or to prevent in vitro fertilization. As  in most in vitro some less fit zygotes are discarded in the petri dish as not viable.
Under this...and their definition of a  'baby'...a fertilized cell is a baby and has the full rights of a person.

Which also makes women on the pill mass murderers.

Also...and coupling it with the Kentucky version of what a 'fetus' is.

The in vitro fertilization could be hit hard by this, as sex selection is common for couples undergoing IVF.

My brother's wife was sterile and was able to carry twins to term due to IVF. They didn't choose the sex but that could have been an option before implantation. https://www.health.com/pregnancy/is-it-actually-possible-to-choose-a-babys-gender-through-ivf

And not only that the above article lists being able to discard 'embryos' that are just a few days old...before implanting due to genetic defects. If Kentucky sticks to it's definition of 'baby' as day one of fertilization...they just made it illegal for sterile couples to have a child and made murderers of IVF doctors.

They are keeping the disabled ones but allowing women with perfectly healthy fetuses to abort.

I won't tell the full story again, but my wife's and I, first daughter was anencephalic. Induced stillbirth at 20ish weeks after being told we could not have a D&X, which would have been the safest procedure. Her placenta would not detach and so my wife started hemorraging--she had to have an emergency D&C to stop the bleeding. Anyone interfering with my wife's health care decisions can DIAF.

guns and abortion and a return to the robber baron state. That is all they really care about. Everything else was just a distraction, and buzzwords, like "compassionate conservatism" .

It is just now, they don't even try and hide it anymore.

Republicans are the absolute worst people imaginable and I hope every goddamn one of them burns in hell, and very soon.

Not to worry, with the people of Kentucky having to work multiple minimum wage jobs (combined with defunding of low-income health care clinics) they won't have the time or money to go to the recommended pregnancy checkups. It will probably be a nice surprise when they give birth at work because they can't afford to go to the hospital.

My husband and I talk about this all the time.  I have chronic illness, and I couldn't imagine the government having more of a say in my care than they already do.  If we had to go through this with a pregnancy gone wrong, and had to worry about the ridiculous laws that old white men make about my body, we'd lose our minds.

That sh*t is between a woman and her doctor.  Anything else is downright traumatizing.  And needlessly so!  What kind of third world sh*thole is this?!

I don't know why Kentucky would care since they're not a border state but there quite a few instances of immigrants/refugees that the Trump administration worked to prevent from getting an abortion. Maybe it's to force refugee teenage girls from South America/Mexico to give birth.

So surprise, turns out the genetic combination of me and my husband make a galactosemia baby. No idea, no rumors of this in the family prior, no relationship that we know of (or that subsequent genetic testing revealed). Fortunately, this first kid was a son. Long-term prognosis is a speech/language delay and some possible issues with balance, so long as he avoids animal milk ingredients in any form (no milk, butter, cheese, goat, cow, any, doesn't matter; soy and almond, etc., are just fine).

But if we have a female with galactosemia, I will abort. No matter how much that child adheres to the dietary restrictions, she faces an almost certain fate of premature ovarian failure.

I cannot tell you how strongly I believe in a woman's right to freely choose when to have a family. To have a child that I know will face a decision like that is not something I would willing put my child through. Similarly any fetus that tests positive for Down syndrome. We will accept any other surprises life and genetics choose to throw at us, but if I can avoid long-term suffering, I will.

Fark anyone, in any party, that attempts to interfere with my right to choose. Under no other circumstance is a person forced to give up bodily autonomy, not even corpses are forced to give up their organs. Females deserve access to abortions that are safe, legal, on demand, without question.

JFC.

How is it that you get absolutely everything you refer to so utterly wrong?

Somacandra: but my wife's and I, first daughter was anencephalic.

That, and harlequin babies, were the top two nightmares on my list. Why I thought it was a good idea to look that shiat up before I got pregnant I'll never know? I was terrified too, because I *knew* something was wrong with my son, but the simple pre-screenings didn't catch anything. It wasn't until a week after he was born that we got a frantic phone call from the docs going "STOP BREASTFEEDING IMMEDIATELY!" and now we're confused and don't know wtf is going on.

What're the people in Kentucky themselves saying, or is anyone even polling at all?  Not that the government is going to listen, likely, but it'd be interesting to know how wide the divide between ruler and ruled is.

Jokes aside this is clever from a pr perspective. It sounds fairly reasonable and progressive if you don't think about it or look beyond the surface. I'm sure they will be talking about how we liberals are the real racists because we want to murder black babies or something.

I notice sexual orientation isn't on that list.

And can someone explain to me how a fetus has a "national origin"? Ain't that dependent on where the mother is when it finally pops out alive?
