(NYPost)   T-mobile CEO pinky swears that a Sprint merger will lower prices (like what happens when all competition is reduced), so they definitely don't need to promise to cap them for 3 years   (nypost.com) divider line

Saying the same thing a bunch of times doesn't make it true.

They say this shiat every time and it never happens. Why hasn't anyone like the previous administration's CFPB slapped massive fines on them for lying about how they would treat customers?

Because that's what always happens. See everyone's cable bills.

Probably not substantively lowered, but I doubt they would rise.  T-Mobile and Sprint are both on the cheap end of the major carriers.  If they charged even a little more, they won't be able to compete with Verizon or AT&T because why pay the same for less of a network?

(On average, YMMV on coverage in specific places you usually are.)

The truth is 5g is going to be expensive to deploy as local governments are liking their lips seeing how many towers will need to be deployed and want to hose the carriers which means we will get hosed and TMobile will need to be able to raise prices after 3 years when 5g goes into full swing.

So that's what Tommy Wisseau is up to.

There's a reason they rebranded their Metro PCS to Metro by T-Mobile. That's where the prices won't be raised, and it's on the same network.

I'm guessing you use AT&T for some reason.

There's no way anyone other than a battered wife would put AT&T on the same plane as Verizon or higher than T-Mobile.

I've had mixed experiences with all carriers. It literally is a YMMV market, depending on where you live and work.

/trying Google fi next.

Dunno about you, but until I decide to stream 4k movies I flat out don't need 5G.  I don't see me ever wanting to stream Wizard of Oz to my phone, let alone a 4k movie.

/ now, my internet connection...
// I'll torrent that 4k movie to my NAS and watch it on my 65" TV at my convenience

Yes, we all have.

That has nothing at all to do with the point being discussed, but you're right.  In some places, things are different than in other places.

I heard the reason was because if the Sprint merger goes through, TMobile doesn't want to divest Sprint's Boost Mobile, which is basically the same as Metro, so they have made Metro appear to be more of a mid-tier brand part of T-Mobile vs. a separate entity. All the cheapie plans and free phones on Metro seem to have vanished.

I just looked at their website, it did change a lot. They still have a $50 tax+fees included for unlimited data, they used to slow down after 32GB, don't know if that's still the same.
I have T-Mobile, my plan is $50 plus tax and fees ($55.15) unlimited data, slowed down after 50GB, and they still are either giving away phones or giving deep discounts in them for new customers.

I had ATT got so expensive, and they make the bill so you have no idea what is going on with credits and add ons.  Switched to Sprint.  Customer Service, HA.  Oh they suck.  I got into an arguement that my house was in a dead zone.  Since they map showed I got service (it didnt), they couldnt help me.    So I switched to Tmobile.  I really like them, they do have coverage issues, when I am out in the sticks.  But my fear is the terrible service Sprint has, I dont want that.

Sprint has that too - it was great because in China I was coming up with a Missouri IP address so I had access to Gmail/Google - I guess a state-sanctioned VPN.

I worry that once TM and Sprint aren't competing for the bottom 1/3 of customers, if they'll drop that program since VZW & ATT both charge daily.
