This supports my thesis that you can sell Americans anything. But that's not a bad thing, that's not a good thing, it's just a thing.

The country of P.T. Barnum, snake oil salesmen, and bizazzz (a word invented by the same woman who created the darling poor little rich girl, Eloise of the grand Pierre hotel, the real life Lindsey Nagle, if you prefer, is the country where the childish, the childlike and the Elect merge into the Kingdom of Heaven even though they generally travel in different lanes of traffic.

God Blesssssssssssss Amurica, America and heck, even their Evil Twin, Babylon the Great Harlot. They are some kinda weird, wild and wonderful. An Englishman, Sir Timothy Berners-Lee gave the world the www (literally, for free) but Americans have taken it to heart more than any other people, because free-dumb.

FREE-DUMB! FREE-DUMB! FREE-DUMB! ATTICA! FREE-DUMB!

Whoops! Now how did Attica get in there? Same way that Gattica did. Amurica!

Oh, booty-ful in specious lies
In amber waves of graft
It's been that way in 'Murica
Since at least the days of Taft.

Oh, boo-ty-ful and booty full and booteous to see.
Amurica the Land of Ghosts and Animal spirits,
That's the land for me!

It's not vomit. It's pointillism, it's action painting. It's Jackson Pollack. It's allusions on allusions, piled higher and deeper, flying like sparks up from the fire.

With a little luck and work, it will arrange itself into a great and glorious mosaic. Not a melting pot, like the vegetarian soup a friend of mine made with a multitude of wonderful vegetables but which tasted like dirt (too many beets, I am afraid). But a distinctly new and wonderful mosaic in which all the tiny tesseracts shine and glitter and form a picture, like a hologram or the monads of Liebnitz's optimistic philosophy and the American Dream and the economy guided by the Invisible Hand, not to be confused with the Hand of Providence, but chaotic and poetic.

He also is in Spike Lee's 25th Hour, and does it there, and i assumed that is where he developed it, but i see now, that film and The Wire both came out in 2002....so i'm not sure where he did it first....

Just confirmed.... The Wire premiered a few months after 25th Hour.   He created it for the movie because Spike Lee wanted the cop to have a catchphrase.  Whitlock drew on some relative for the inspiration.

Amusing Anecdote, Sibling:

About 4 years ago I was playing Ed Earl Dodd in a production of Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Now the show is very different from the movie, and the director specifically said he didn't want a Burt Reynolds imitation, so I played around with it a bit.  One night during tech I was trying a bit too hard an I lost my place during a monologue right at the end of a sentence.  Thankfully I had been binge watching "The Wire" earlier that week. So instead of a long drawn out pause (which would have been a dead give away) while I mentally found my place, I said the first thing that came to mind while I got back on track.

"SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIITTT....."

Got the biggest laugh from the director and the cast. Went on to become a running gag, which, to this day people still repeat back to me.

So. Thanks Isiah Whitlock Jr!!

The scene where Clay Davis testifies at his trial in the fifth season is absolutely brilliant.  The whole thing he says is bullshiat in its most concentrated form -- but you can see that no jury in the world would have voted to convict him after that.
