I like the idea of a hard trade deadline, but I think July 31st is too early.  You're basically going to have teams decide mid-season that they're done and aren't going to even try to be competitive. Give it another month, keep teams and especially their fans holding out hope.

What he said.  I don't see anything wrong with an August 31 hard deadline.

Many leagues go 3/4 mark so how about August 15?

Yeah, I'd be okay with that, too.

well, that was covered quickly. good idea but with too early of a deadline. hopefully TPTB will be open to moving it back 2-4 weeks in near future seasons.

I'm okay with this so long as Joe West can be fired at any time.

Or there are more teams not out of the playoff hunt on July 31 that will be seeking to boost their chances. You can argue it either way.

I like the idea of the deadline tying in with roster expansion. Once they fix service time, teams could turn around the next day and show their fans what they got for dumping their heroes.

I don't think you need to worry about this. I'm pretty sure he was dead last night when I was going through Fallout III. His body was in a shack is Arefu.

No deal, he needs to be fired now.

I see that they're reducing the roster size in September from 40 to 28. I would like to see that tweaked a bit to allow teams that have been mathematically eliminated from the postseason to go to 30 or 35 players in September. Give the teams and fans a chance to see some of the kids coming up as there's no real reason to watch the players that already failed on the season.

I'd like that, or keeping it at 40 with the stipulation that the manager must submit a 25-man roster before the start of the game and only those guys are eligible to play that day.

I would go with, 40 men on the team but submit a 28 man roster card before each game.

I'd say yes to 28 man rosters in September, but you can rotate guys in from the 40 man before each series. Maybe allow one extra move after the third and fourth game of a series, or for days with doubleheaders.
