That was a lame list of jobs that "pay well."

So mostly, it's about poop, bugs and dead people.

My qualifications as Senior Head Lice remover?

Well, people who know me say I'm very nit-picky.

Senior or senor?

40-50k isn't paying "well." I make in the 50k range for playing on social media. This list sucks.

Head lice remover? In my house it was a crew cut from my dad and then applying whatever goo my parents bought at the drug store while my mother washed the bedding.

Some of those vary greatly based on location.  NYC garbage collectors are Teamsters, and with overtime easily make high five to low six digit salaries.  Of course, the cost of living anywhere in the five boroughs is high as well.

I can't imagine the guys who collect my rural trash even pull in $30k.

Its not bad for my small town where a good house is $150-200k, but in any major metro area of the country $50k is almost poverty.

Exactly. I'm in Atlanta, and 50k is ok, but I'm not living high on the hog or anything.

I knew this creepy guy in HS that became a Mortician.  He may be making good money, but now he is even creepier.

That list reads like the professions shown on The Onion's American Voices column.

I'm not sure the lice-removal job should be on that list.  I have met a lot of people who were nit-pickers.

One side of my family is in the funeral home business.  There was a push for me to go into it but I couldn't stomach it.  Took a tour of one when I was 15 and watched the whole thing retching.

The money is fantastic though.  Way way above $52k from the list and that was 30+ years ago

I was hoping this would include my job so I could finally find someone interested in being my assistant.

/"Jizz Mopper" is not a popular job, but the pay is alright

Dog waste cleaner

I paid my tuition one term doing this. I was hired by a condo to clean up the area beside one guy's patio daily. He refused to clean up after his dogs and had apparently been a problem for years to the point where they had to have the grass replanted and neighbors couldn't use their patios due to the smell. I went there daily and if there was dog waste I took photos, picked it up, and billed $100. Over the course of two months I billed exactly $5000. The condo eventually took him to court, won, and sold his unit under power of sale to cover my costs and the legal.

Crime scene cleaner

I've also done this a few times. Not after crimes, but after people who've passed away and not been found for a few days. The worst was an older gentleman who passed away in a chair positioned in a sunny bay window. He had no family and the condo found out he passed when the flies got out of control (a little over a week). The coroner took the body, but he had partially liquified so I had to deal with the chair and carpet. It was gross, but I was paid $1500 for less than two hours work.

Southern California here, you can't even look at a decent condo for $200k and $50k income for a single person is in the 'low income' bracket...

I lived in San Diego for 10 years, in the early 00s before the housing bubble burst 1 bedroom condos in my neighborhood were 250-300k. I moved to Arizona and bought a 3000sf 5bd 3bth house for $270k

Tyrosine: The worst was an older gentleman who passed away in a chair

My worst cleanup was a very obese guy, died in his bath tub, high summer, windows open.   More like ballistic gel then soup or stew when we got to him.

Having worked in the trade the family always volunteers me to deal with the funeral home salesmen (that's what they are) when there's a croakin' in the clan.  "Oh you must have a steel container for the casket."  "No we don't, by state law concrete is adequate." "You'll need a casket gasket to protect the departed."  "No we don't, by state law a generic wooden casket is legal, and we bought it from Costco""Here's is what we'd recommend..."  "Show me your price lists.""This is a list of approved urns for your departed's cremated remains."  "Bought one from Pottery Barn, thanks just the same."

If the family is of the "Get 'em in the ground now" variety don't have any embalming done.  It's not required unless there is health/legal/display (who wants three days of viewing?) issue.  Can save from a couple of hundred to a thousand dollars.

I paid $150k for my 4/2 new construction outside of Tucson. I don't love Arizona, but the low cost of living and my state pension job keeps me here until I retire. It's also close enough to San Diego that I go at least once a month for a weekend trip.

I moved from Southeastern PA, where you could also live on $50K, but not nearly as well. Every time I go home I am surprised by how much more expensive things like groceries and gas are there.

The landlady of the apartment where I lived in the early 90s was killed in the lobby by an ex-tenant (recently evicted) who sought revenge using an axe.  There was no crime scene cleanup. One of the people in the building cleaned up what was sprayed all around the lobby after the police had left.  It looked like something from a horror film.  The image of what I saw once they removed her will never leave my memory....

I interviewed for a job with a bed bug thermal heat exterminator 6 months ago.  I was too old to be a technician but knew plenty about them from my own experience.  When you aren't working and are desperate you tend to look for "anything."  Thermal technicians are required to lift heavy equipment up multiple flights of stairs (heaters/fans).  This company had more business than they could handle.  However, technicians were paid really low wages for all that work.

My dad lives pretty comfortably in Easten PA on around 50k, but I havent paid much attention to gas or groceries out there since I only have visited, what pissed me off were the toll roads cost $20 to go get someone from the Philly airport.

I make less than $13,000 a year, THIS IS POVERTY!
