Yeah, but so are the Bucs so it evens out.

None of this matters because Browns just picked up OBJ. They're gonna get their ring this season.

Wow. I just saw that. It's flipped and the giants are now the browns. I foresee a lot of Eli face this season.

Don't set yourself up for disappointment. They have to be the favorites for the division right now and they look really good, but The Drive, The Fumble, Red Right 88, and everything since 1999 should have beaten it out of you by now.

This also could be "fake news" like AB to the Bills. OBJ is still "processing the news".

The Browns often are winners this time of year.  And the Lions are doing the same thing they do.  I do think fans of both teams have better seasons to look forward to.

/ 8 and 8 is pretty cool.

Browns 1 FG away from 8-8 last season.

Add Sheldon Richardson, Kareem Hunt, Olivier Vernon, OBJ, Baker's 1st full season, Kitchens, DC Wilkes, Steelers imploding, Ravens falling apart, Bengals...

I smell a couple more wins and a playoff berth. So hard for some people to adjust to the new reality.

I'm still not buying into the whole Steelers implosion thing. They still have Conner, they have JuJu, if Washington develops as a WR2 the offense is essentially unchanged. The only real concerns are Boswell's yips and the defense, and they just agreed to a contract with a veteran corner.

Things certainly didn't go as hoped last year, but they're anything but dead.

Yeah, I exaggerate sometimes for effect (see above comment about ring). I expect Steelers to be in the game 2019.

I hope the Browns turn into this year's Jags, just because of all that damned hope.

I've been unabashedly and unironically a Browns fan since driving up there to see them host the Jags a few years ago after thanksgiving. The trip itself was uneventful, we had to stop at one of my friend's brother's places in Ohio which reeked of cat piss; it was cold and miserable, Cleveland at night is a graveyard (and not much better during the day), and despite Josh Gordon setting the 2-game receiving yards record while we watched, the Browns, predictably, lost.

What sold me, and what will forever remain in my mind, is how passionate, welcoming, and cheerful the fans were, and are. No matter how miserable the team, there's hope; no matter how bad the weather, they show up for games. The fans, more than the team, the city, or the game won me over that day, and as a result I'll forever hope to see them do well, even if only for a single shining moment.

/this is probably the least snarky post I've made in the decade-plus I've been here

I sort of understand. I'm not a Browns fan, but I've been rooting for their success because of all that damned hate.

I went to 2 games in Cleveland, my first 2 NFL games. The fans were awesome and like you I want the Browns to kick some ass this year. We had a great time in Cleveland too!

With all being said about Cleveland, OBJ is still a headcase. Hopefully all goes well in Cleveland, but if the Giants decided they couldn't rebuild around him, then it'll have to be a wait and see for the Browns.

Eh, Washington's gonna have to do a hell of a lot of developing to become either Juju or last-year AB. Not impossible, but it's not like it's destined to happen or anything

If the Browns don't win at least 10 games this year they should really just dissolve the franchise

It's like reading a free-writing exercise. That's what comes from utter fan despair. You think you are using beautiful elocution, only to find that it's more in the 'ramblings of a mental patient' category.

Tampa Bay isn't seriously going to pay Jameis Winston $20+ million this year, are they? How have they not cut him yet and gone all in on Haskins or Murray? You're going to get the same number of wins with a rookie QB as you will with Winston, and you're not going to be paying the rookie anywhere near $20 million this year.

It's a good point - but maybe you ride Winston all the way to the basement, get Haskins or Murray,  and release Winston when the new guy is ready to take the starting job.
Winston is middle to lower middle of the pack of QB's.  $20 mil is becoming about right for that.

Wadded Beef: Browns are gonna wreck the AFC North next year.

Timing is working in their favor, for sure.  From 2012-2015 the rest of the AFC North was pretty darn strong, with Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Baltimore splitting time as the dominant force and each of them far out-classing the Browns.  But all 3 of those other teams are currently distinctly down from their prior heights.  Baltimore is losing key defensive players, has nothing on offense, and a new QB who's run-first and has no weapons.  Pittsburgh just auctioned off or lost their best play-makers and is looking shaky.  Cincinnati missed its window and is depleted on both sides of the ball, with Andy Dalton declining and everyone's confidence is in the toilet.  If the Browns had tried to turn things around in 2012 all their good legitimate effort might have only resulted in a 3rd place finish in the division.  But their window is really opening up right now - making good moves, getting talented players in, dumping horrible coaches, and the rest of the division is in the crapper, so it's looking about as rosy as Cleveland could possibly hope for.

Because Tampa is cursed. If we release Winston now, he'll win a super bowl within a few years. See: Steve Young, Trent Dilfer.

Winston is horrible. Serves them right for picking him first overall.  I think it is great punishment to keep him on the roster.  Karma..something something.
