I wonder if the press in Europe makes up stats like here for March Madness?

"The Netherlands will loss a bajillion Euros in productivity when Ajax plays in the quarter finals"

But don't those numbers discount the uptick in bar/restaurant sales/productivity? I believe they do.

Don't worry, they'll spend $400M over the summer and get some fresh faces.

Ah, a nice distraction from the flaming dumpster fire that is my country right now.

Schalke fans travel in very large numbers, I think this is their first European campaigns in a very long time and their fans are enjoying it while they can.

The fun here is: will winter storm Gareth arrive in time to mess things up.

(Yes. This one is indeed called Gareth. Imagine being killed by storm Gareth. At least the previous one had a suitably vengeful name in Freya)

atletico's away kit is certainly one of the more creative I have seen.

Is the storm coming in from a freekick outside the box?

Ronaldo tears would make my day.

Gooo,... noooooooo

Clear whistle.  That is a clear free kick to me because it was in the 6 yard box and the keeper took a knee to the head.

And NO GOAL!

I think it is a clear no goal, just because it will get us closer to Ronaldo tears.

The naming of winter storms is decided jointly between the Irish and British meteorological offices. So we get limp British names mixed in with far more interesting Irish ones.

The reason they name them is that studies have shown more people actually listen to weather warnings when the storm gets a name compared to when they don't.

2019-03-12 04:14:31 PM

It also avoids conversations like this

Owen Newitt: Filthy weather!
Jim Trott: No, no, no I've known worse.
Owen Newitt: Oh yes? When was that then?
Jim Trott: The Great Storm. When the windmill got blown over.
Owen Newitt: That wasn't The Great Storm, that was a moderately windy night! No, the really great storm... was The Great Storm.
Jim Trott: When was that?
Owen Newitt: When Dave Batt got decapitated.
Jim Trott: That wasn't the great storm!
Owen Newitt: Well, it was pretty damn great!

gotta be doable by now, but it depends how strict your definition of masked is, ie, do you allow Czech in goal?

Ronaldo gets that one.  😢

2019-03-12 04:27:54 PM
goooooool   for juve

2019-03-12 04:28:12 PM
Ronaldo pulls one back from a header.
1-0
1-2 aggregate

2019-03-12 04:28:38 PM
I would it allow that either since he clipped the defender and gave him a shove to prevent him from getting to it first.

2019-03-12 04:32:08 PM
Going to need that away goal now Atleti.

2019-03-12 04:32:37 PM
