I think a fun joke would be to steal your friend's ballot and write Dicky McDictatorFace on it and drop it in the ballot box.

Is Trump on the ballot?

To be fair, if you're going to be executed by an evil totalitarian dictator, getting shot point-blank by an anti-aircraft gun actually probably isn't all that bad of a way to go. Basically the hydrostatic shock wave alone would snuff you out before you had a chance to even realize your parts were all over the place.

Admittedly, I'd rather deal with death by Snu Snu but maybe that's just me.

It wouldn't be so bad if only the individual was murdered. You'd probably see some immediate family involved.

"This could be part of North Korea's ongoing effort to be perceived as a 'normal state'," she said. "And in most democratic countries, the president doesn't concurrently have a seat in the parliament."

But his sister does, right?

But what message are they propagating? The outside world knows their 'elections' are a joke. Best Koreans are not given even the illusion of choice, per Soviet practice.

The only message I can think of is "by the way, in case you didn't notice, you live in a dictatorship and your voice means nothing." Which is one way to control people.

More like rubbing their faces in their hopelessness. "You know this is a sham, we know this is a sham, we can do whatever we want and there's not thing one you can do about it."

NK citizens don't know much about the outside world, and probably think their elections are just as fair as ours.  Only half as fair really.  If only we had the candidates we want to choose from.

I'm surprised there isn't an opposition candidate somewhere running a spirited campaign from the bottom of an unmarked grave.

Yea, otherwise the electoral college would have to step in and make a mockery of democracy.  They have plenty of facts to back up their propaganda.  Name one person who runs the electoral college or how they're appointed without looking it up.  They'd probably say at least their vote actually matters.

It simplifies the counting process as the vote counters don't need to read at the ballots. Its a communist efficiency thing.

It's not "mandatory" per se.  But if you can, you're supposed.  The thing I don't get is they probably don't even bother checking the ballots.  The last "election" they had, he won 100% of the vote of 100% of the voting population according to their "news."

So you're telling me every single person voted?  Somebody on their deathbed, got out, voted and went back?  Some old person too sick to move suddenly got out and voted?  What's the point in holding these elections is right.  At least make it somewhat more realistic.  "70% of the population voted, and 100% voted for supreme leader Il."

Why not create a fictitious, opposing candidate on the ballot? You can weed out the possible dissidents (and those in need of a Darwin Award).
