Until they stop raping children and covering up the rape of children then they can STFU.

Not really a fair comparison at all.

Monster that he is, R Kelly is just one guy.  He's no worldwide institution willing to perpetuate and hide generations of abuse.

Jesus is a dick because Jesus freaks butt Fark kids.

I can't read the story because of the adblocker bullshiat but who are they to demand anything?

It's SNL. They make fun of shiat. That's what they do. It's like that Trump pussy whining that they lampoon him on a weekly basis. It's a comedy show. Trump's a criminal who is a national embarrassment, the Catholic Church rapes children and covers it up. Shows like SNL are going to call them out on that. No one else in the media before 11:30PM does so someone has to.

2019-03-11 11:01:35 PM
R. Kelly only wishes he had the exclusive and deliberate mechanisms to rape and molest young children and cover it up that the Catholic Church does.

2019-03-11 11:21:36 PM
If they'd get half as outraged about pedophiles as they get about people making fun of them for harboring pedophiles, they'd have a lot more credibility

2019-03-12 12:13:14 AM
That's cute, they still think they wield the same power they did during this shiat that happened when I was a teenager.

Are they still diddling kids and using nuns as sex slaves?
Then they can STFU.

Statement: Stop raping children.

Response: We demand an apology for pointing out that we rape children.

Uh, yeah. You know what, how about no...

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: R. Kelly only wishes he had the exclusive and deliberate mechanisms to rape and molest young children and cover it up that the Catholic Church does.

He had the next best thing. Music industry covered up for him for decades. Guess he stopped making money for the right people.

On the plus side, a boy or two was not raped while they took time out to yell at Pete Davidson.

No, it means the original joke doesn't land that well, and if I were SNL/Davidson, I'd "apologize" by pointing out that yes, the Catholic Church does have great music, which is the only appropriate response to a bunch of pedophile enablers complaining about how they're represented in satire.

Sinead condemns the church abusing kids. SNL apologizes and covers it up. Now SNL jokes about church abuse and scoffs at apologizing. I prefer they apologize to Sinead and fark what the church wants.

Well, personally I thought that part of the joke was a slam on R. Kelly's music, but yes, a suitable response would be to say "We would like to clarify that when we said that the difference between R. Kelly and the Catholic Church is that one's music is significantly better, we meant that the Catholic Church were the ones with the good music. We apologize for the confusion."

Fark: "Of course it isn't funny, you hypocrites! You've systematically enabled and covered for abuse for centuries! You're monsters! You're evil! You're..."

Catholic Church: "No, we mean it isn't funny because Pete Davidson told it. That guy just mangles jokes, you know?"

Maybe the Catholic Church can come on SNL and do a couple skits with Davidson, and they can hold hands and tell the world how much they respect each other and the jobs they do.

The part that jumped out at me was when they said it was a "difficult time" in the church.
This "scandal" has been being exposed for 30+ years and NOW it's a difficult time?

Go fark yourselves and get it done. If tomorrow we woke up and hundreds of clergy we're out of jobs and being put on trial there might be some sense that the magnitude of the issue was being addressed.

Until then...go fark yourselves...not altar boys!

She was right but also a farking moron. It's funny because although she abandoned the Church, she grew up Irish Catholic... but for people who weren't able to quickly access info on the internet, there was a question as to whether she was a protestant Irish making a very bigoted statement about Catholics. The Troubles were still going on at that time. And that was just one of the many inaccurate interpretations that came up at the time. I don't think she planned the whole thing that well and had no clear message to explain what the did. I don't think I found out what she was actually protesting until 10-15 years after the fact.

Yeah, well, at the time maybe 1% of the public really knew about the Catholic church's abuse problem? Other than the victims and the church itself, it was still a very hidden issue. Within 10 years it was common knowledge, but to call JP II "evil" and say to "fight" him was not exactly a good way to get your message across and didn't raise awareness at all, since no one really knew exactly what she was protesting.

I had no idea of what she was talking about either, though I agreed with her that religion is an enemy. But I knew that it wasn't going to fly with anyone else, so it was a pretty lame statement. So 25 years later people are grudgingly admitting she was right, woo-hoo, she really struck an effective blow...

The YouTube clip doesn't go as far into the bit, but I liked John Mulaney's take on how the Catholic Church problem solves:
"Hmm, let's see what problems we can solve in the Catholic Church today.  Problem 1: ..............no!  Not going to solve that one!" But let's go after Pete Davidson for making fun of us!

It's not fair to compare the Catholic Church to R. Kelly.  R. Kelly has never claimed to be the sole moral authority in this world, so he's definitely less hypocritical.  It's not like he was out there claiming he spoke for the creator of the universe and preaching "Don't piss on little girls."

"The clergy sex abuse crisis is shameful, and no one should ever get a laugh at the expense of the victims who have suffered irreparably."

listen to what they are saying...the church is TELLING us, right here in plain black and white text, that the abusive clergy are the victims in all of these sex/rape/abuse scandals.  NOT the women or kids who were abused, the CLERGY are the real victims here, or so the church would have us believe.

they're not angry about someone mocking the people these clergy raped over the years...the church is just upset that people are mocking them and their pathetic response to all of the abuse.

people need to get better gods.  Or no gods, if that's your thing.  but at the very least we need to stop giving christian clergy a free pass when they violate the law (or passing altar boys).

The faithful of our Church are disgusted by the harassment by those in news and entertainment, and this sketch offends millions.

Well hell, I've been offended by the actions of the Church Leaders going back hundreds of years. Remember the Borgia's? Buying the seat of the Pope. The killing of their own greatest soldiers to get their treasures. (Knights Templar's) Their fooling with politics and not to mention the assistance they gave Hitler. Then there was that convent in Africa where a civil war was erupting and the rebels were killing and raping and chopping people up alive. Civilians fled to the church for safety and the nuns packed the place full.

Then when the rebels came by, the Mother Superior ratted them out. The rebels entered the church and gunned everyone down. The Nuns then abandoned the convent. They left a Church packed with rotting bodies behind. I don't recall the pope of that time doing anything about it. As far as I know, somewhere in the jungle there's a rotting Catholic Church full of a lot of human bones.

I also know about the abuse Nuns and Priests have done to children in their orphanages. From working the kids nearly to death, to making them kneel on the hard, bare wooden floors for hours. When a kid died, they were buried on the grounds and a basic form filed reporting the death. No autopsies. One orphanage that was investigated turned out to have twice as many dead and buried in their fields as was reported.

Survivors speaking out today also mention sexual abuse at the hands of the priests and the nuns. Not to mention the hopeless terror they felt.

I think the Vatican has a whole lot more to apologize for and no room to biatch about a comedians' skit.

Rik01: I think the Vatican has a whole lot more to apologize for and no room to biatch about a comedians' skit.

well yes...but they'll never do that.  they'll blame shift, and try to cover up as many of the horrific details as possible.

abuse is part of the christian faith.  I don't think that was the original intent...but that's what its become.
