Some things are not tinged by the stain of politics. Precious few things, perhaps, but they do exist. Science is one of them and one of USA's strengths for a great long time now is science. Full disclosure, I work for a science agency and one of my personal goal's is to maintain that competitive edge.

I count among my heroes Richard Feynman, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Theodore von Kármán, Ada Lovelace, and countless others. I look very much forward to the new discoveries and their applications.

Oh, and vaccinate your children.

Things occasionally slip through - Trump isn't just evil and stupid - he's lazy and inattentive, too, and sometimes that works out for the best.

That in the Trump administration science is only trusted as long as it aligns with political goals.  The FDA is on Line 2 to discuss the same thing.

I lost track, but the wife of one of Trump's central slobs keeps promoting measles as something that strengthens resistance to cancer. These people are utter morons and also dangerous.

Trump has a history of vaccine-safety denial and even chatted with Robert F Kennedy about investigating vaccines.

I was born overseas thanks to my dad's USAF service. I own a home and work in Fairfax County, Virginia. So, yeah, I live in USA.

Vast majority is non-political. We take science extremely seriously. Lives are on the line.

Good tangent. Lives are on the line with vaccines. Measles rearing its ugly head again is a catastrophe. A child nearly dying from tetanus and surviving with a nearly $1 million medical bill only to have his parents decide against vaccinating him for tetanus is child abuse.

Don't see why I should vaccinate my kids. Predominantly because I don't have any.

Did see a thing on the news the other afternoon about the anti-vaccers coming out of the woodwork in Olympia over the new bills. Had one guy claiming that (in typical conservative logic) vaccines can only protect against like 14-15 illnesses and there's "so much more pain involved in it". Never wanted to punch someone that was fairly close to me so much in my life.

Well, yeah. Most vax (dunno percentage) go into large muscles and for some folks, the best place would be the head.

Surgeon General C. Everett Koop was under Reagan. Koop fought until he was able to do something about AIDS. Despite resistance from his administration, and despite his own deep conservatism, Koop spoke frankly about anal sex, needle exchanges, safe sex, and tried to promote sex education as early as third grade. U.S. Surgeon Generals sometimes surprise us.
