That is child abuse. Period. The hell with what the CPS guidelines say on the matter. Their child nearly dies from their own stupidity, and they refuse further treatment? To even try to protect their child against further risk of death via easily cured diseases?

Fark that. That child deserves competent parents who give a damn. And his current parents deserve a bill for $880,000, due on receipt. Plus a 20% surcharge for excess stupidity.

Your children aren't your property. They're little humans who have to function in a society. Not vaccinating them, not teaching them right from wrong, and all the other things bad parents do to their kids to turn them into a societal burden should be punished.

Get your sh*t together. So many goddamned people in this country are making it hell for the others in their zeal to march back in time and away from science. Your beliefs don't mean dick if they contradict truth and facts.

Child abuse aside, these are the people driving up healthcare premiums even further and they need to be stopped.

Just offer to bleed the parents for free, bout 5 pints each, and take the boy to safety while they're still unable to move.

We can eve  sterilize the scaple, if they like.

Is 5 pints fatal?  Maybe 4.5, 4 is safer. Just enough to keep em kitten weak, but alive while CPS saves their kid.

The hospital charges $880K, they spent a lot less but in this case

My solution: sure it's your right to refuse vaccinations but if you choose to do so then you cannot accept any government assistance of any kind and you cannot place your kids in public school.

Unfortunately in the short term this will hurt the children who are under the control of harmful parents but at least it will (somewhat) protect the public and hopefully change behavior.

So we need a cost differential analysis on vaccination costs vs. a child's coffin. Anyone have those maths on hand?

Those nut-jobs are only pro-life before the child is born. After that it is all put to their god's will. Freakin' nut-jobs.

I think they've pushed far enough and we as a society can criminalize this behavior now.

Except (for example) when it comes to voting for who should be the POTUS, and who actually wins that race.

Don't underestimate the power of belief. Ranting about it is all well and good, but the power of belief is there in your* headlines every day.

Imagine being the kind of person who could watch your child go through that and be willing to roll the dice on it happening again, instead of doing everything possible to protect them.

You have about 5 litres (~10.5 pints) in your body. Lose 1 litre (2 pints), best get to hospital. Lose 2 litres (4 pints), best get a line in NOW. Even saline might save your life. Lose 3 litres (6 pints), get ready to meet the FSM.

The great thing is that to "sterilize" it, all you have to do is dip it in 12X dilution of garlic, echinacea, and lemon juice.

I don't know what makes me more angry: that the parents refused additional treatment after the kid nearly died or that his original treatement cost more than $800,000.

So basically he got tetanus because his parents gambled on whether the disease itself or what they believe are potential risks of the vaccine is worse and absolutely no other reason.

He got tetanus because they gambled on his life.

If I feed my children "alternative food" I go to jail, but these people can use "alternative medicine" (i.e. hopes and prayers), nearly kill their kid, and face no punishment?

They should have their children and their freedom taken away.

About 1 in 5 people who get tetanus die but about 1 in 1,000,000 who get the vaccine have a serious complication from the vaccine. So obviously they chose to skip the vaccine.

You're getting too close to reality there - apart from the echinacea and the dilution, garlic and lemon juice will kill a lot of bacteria. You could do worse than use those to treat cut injuries if nothing more suitable is handy (like being on a camping trip without a first aid kit - which itself deserves derision, but you know what I mean).

Take the children. Indict them for child abuse, reckless endangerment and anything else that makes sense. Upon being found guilty put them in prison for 10 years and fine them $811,929.

hang on a second.  since when is Tetanus on the list of vaccines.  most of the time you only get a Tetanus shot if you get stabbed by a rusty piece of metal.

actually anti-vaxxers are mostly right wing anti-government types.  put the kids in cages, so they don't spread any of their diseases.  That seems to be the proper way to deal with this stuff.

Every ten or so years you should get one especially if you work with anything that may be rusty.

I believe you get it when only a few months old, a booster at age 7, and then every 10 years you get a booster after that.

Quoth the article:
The young boy contracted the disease after he cut his forehead while playing outside on a farm, according to a report released by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday that details the 2017 case.
The boy's parents reportedly cleaned and stitched his cut at home. Roughly a week later, the boy began to cry as his limbs involuntarily spasmed and his jaw began to clench tight.

It's part of the DTap/Tdap vaccine.

Ok, I could see a kid getting a grass scrape outside, playing and no one really cleaning it until a problem developed.  But this kid's injury was deep enough to need stitches!  I scraped my scalp on an outdoor sign, barely enough to bleed, and my employer sent me to worker's comp, because i couldn't see the injury enough to judge it.  The doc looked at it, said, meh, let's update your tetanus just to be safe.  I had to sit around for a full hour afterwards because I have a history of anaphylaxis to all kinds of weird things, including flu vaccines.  All told I was out in about 2 hours and back to work.  No big deal.

These abusers let the kid develop freaking lockjaw.  Rescue this kid and any siblings.  I don't care that the incident occurred in 2017.  The statute on attempted murder is longer than 24 months.

Wacko Conservatives and Wacko Liberals are about even on the anti-vax thing.

Since the 40's.  It's part of the normal vaccines given to babies.  The first DTaP dose is given at 2 months.

"Your kid was in horrible pain and could have died.  We administered the vaccine and stabilized him, he's going to be okay.  We'd like to administer another dose as a preventative measure."

Nah, we don't think it's necessary.

"Well, your thoughts on what was necessary meant your child had to suffer."
