Oh geeze. Pancreatic Cancer is one of the worst ones to beat. Mainly because it's usually terminal or near terminal by the time it's detected. I mean Stefán Karl Stefánsson managed to buy himself two years and that was with it going into remission once and most of Youtube fund raising for him.

I have to say, I admire his spunk.

2019-03-06 05:24:47 PM
Jesus.  Not a crack or waver in his voice.

If he rehearsed that any less than 500 times to get that cool, he's as tough as nails.

2019-03-06 05:24:49 PM
Ugh, that's too bad. Pancreatic cancer is... Not good.

Good luck, Alex.

Worse things couldn't happen to a better guy.

I love the bit about his contract. It's the right kind of levity and very fitting for his on-air personality.

This suuuuuuucks.

I can't remember a time in my life before Trebek. My parents watched Jeopardy, I watch Jeopardy.  I also watched Classic Concentration and High Rollers.

I'm pulling for him.

2019-03-06 05:27:25 PM
ALEX: So Doctor, how long have I got?
DOCTOR: (begins humming a familiar 30second tune)

(Seriously tho, sad news.  I know stage 4 is bad, but I hope there's a happy ending somehow.)

2019-03-06 05:27:39 PM
That totally sucks.

And Fark Cancer

2019-03-06 05:27:45 PM
If anyone has a chance I'm sure it's him.  Not looking good though.  Fark cancer.

2019-03-06 05:27:52 PM
He seems like a genuinely decent guy.  He gets pancreatic cancer while Kanye rakes in billions?  There is no justice in the world.

I'l take predictable Fark responses for the next 100 posts, Alex.

Gallows humor, hey what else can you do?  We've been a Jeopardy watching household all my life, this sucks.  I wish him only the very best but well we all know what this prognosis means.  Son of a shiat this sucks.

Same and same. Watching it almost every night was also a big part of my brain injury recovery. Apparently trivia is a good exercise for that.

2019-03-06 05:28:42 PM
Now this makes me sad

You ever feel so bad for laughing, you say, out loud and for all to hear, "Jesus F*cking Christ"?

Good job.

"...because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy for 3 more years! I need your help!"

2019-03-06 05:29:43 PM
My uncle beat.  But it came back and beat him again in the end.  He had one bout with it, and the treatments were  successful.  He lived another five years and then it returned and he was not able to beat it the second time around.

/Fark cancer.
//And especially fark pancreatic cancer.

plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease. Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years!

That great sense of humor will help. Godspeed. Fark cancer.

My dad died from pancreatic cancer. He went to the doctor for a nagging pain, got diagnosed, and was dead 8 months later.

How farking fitting for the times, when one of the few public figures who celebrates the advancement of knowledge and the most noble human pursuits should be struck down in such a horrific manner while fark it, I'm not even going to finish my thought.

Yeah, this sucks. Stage 4... Pancreatic... both are bad, because usually, you have pancreatic cancer because you have cancer somewhere else, and it metastasized. Stage 4 is pretty far into things, too.

I wish him well, but having been on the receiving end of a cancer diagnosis, I can say it is very hard to describe the weight of that knowledge on a person. For me, I was lucky enough to survive it (over 8 years ago), though the discomfort of my treatment nearly pushed me to the limit.
