Polyamory works fine as long as you plan how to divide up the cats, Renaissance Faire garb and books on Magick in the event of a break up.

Done in one, except you forgot the STAR TREK novels.

If you think you can make it work with multiple partners, then power to you.

I find relationship int Mrs Creidiki complicated enough for me.

You know who's been destroying the "sanctity" of marriage for time immemorial?  Not gay couples; straight couples who marry on a whim then get surprised when they find out something about their partner after they're married.

I'm late Gen X and have colleagues who are straight-down-the-middle Millennials. The way they talk about sex and relationships, especially open ones, is completely alien to me. I feel like a total prude around them.

Yep. The polyamory stuff is "whatever floats your boat" to me, but this part was a major blaring siren that one or more of these people "just ain't right." Or maybe that's what the kids are into nowadays?

I'm always curious if they have three-way fights. It's likely two against one and the man probably gets destroyed. Does one run in the other room while two fight or is it a free-for-all?

Not so much.
In both the poly trios I know, the stronger pairing are the girls. If there was a breakup, it would the guy getting dropped from the arrangement.

Dead for Tax Reasons: how about a pollyannaous relationship

I was in a polyanonymous relationship for like... six years, and never even knew it.

This may be a merger of the "millennials need boomer parents to support them" thread, but I have been talking to the Mrs and honestly getting another spouse would solve a lot of financial/lack of time problems (either another earner to pay for child care or a stay at home parent so we don't have to pay for it).

She doesn't seem too keen on it.

I think that you meant Heinlein novels.

Actually knew people in a situation along these lines that cited Robert Heinlein in their reasoning for it. First guy and gal get married. She's sleeping with their roommate too, husband doesn't know. They get divorced. She marries the second guy, and brings in (with this guy's knowledge) a third guy. Eventually that setup also failed, but I don't think that she married #3.

I'm not really sure why she felt like getting married or getting into strong relationships that customarily have had a degree of exclusivity. Most people wouldn't really care if she slept around but the methods employed caused a lot of heartache and financial problems for everyone involved.

It seems more likely that the two chicks are banging each other and sometimes he gets to bang one or both of them too.

Been poly/ethically non-monogamous (I farking hate both terms) for ten years now. Love is not a finite resource. Dating two women right now, one is married, they both know about one another and I'm actually vacationing with the married one currently. Pick your partners carefully, be emotionally mature, and communicate communicate communicate.  I've been in monogamous relationships that were more difficult and I get a bit antsy when people joke about how "if I had to deal with more than one woman i'd _____". It's not climbing Mt Everest; just be respectful, value the time you have with your partners and understand why you're all there.

I hate even bringing it up sometimes because people react better if I said I was cooking sarin gas in my bath tub. But hey, with all these stellar mono relationship experts out there proving poly wrong by not being able to monogamy their way out of a paper bag how can I argue?

Just communicate, be real, and don't bring crazy into your life.

I don't think that it's quite that straightforward, if humans operate similarly to other mammals when one male openly has more than one female sexual partner. It would probably devolve into competition for his attention and affection, and that competition could get nasty if he encourages it.

Kind of there with you, but I think it is mostly all the terms and definitions, just like in this article, a "poly triad V". WTF? Seriously? Are all 3 of you in bed at the same time? Well, then you are a 3some... and that's fine, I don't need to know the details. Not that it bothers me, just that it isn't my business and I don't really care. You do you, but you don't have to tell me all about you either.
Unless... are you asking if I'm interested? Hmmm....
