I bet you are the type of person who calls women right's activist "pro-murderers".

Terrorists.  Or are they too white for the accurate label?

I'm pro-choice, if that's what you mean. Pretty aggressively. I give a fair amount to Planned Parenthood each year because I believe that women aren't "host bodies" and have a right to decent medical care.

Mostly, I'm pro-science.  Or more specifically anti-willful-ignorance. Bring data, facts, footnotes and references, or F off.

Considering that the entire so-called anti-vax movement was created by a dishonest quack doctor who was paid in order to benefit a pharmaceutical company that was making vaccines without certain ingredients, that his "research" was nothing but lies, he recanted, lost his medical license and NO valid peer-reviewed scientific study EVER has shown any link between autism and vaccines, I think I'm allowed to call them "willfully ignorant"

Jenny McCarthy should go to jail.

People absolutely can be this stupid.

Plus, they have some valid points about autonomy insofar as legally the government cannot, indeed should not have the power to, force people to undergo an optional medical procedure. America's Eugenics programs were the inspiration for Hitler's and ran until... at least the 70's if they aren't still up.

That said, the anti-vaxers' single good point is outweighed by a your mother sized pile of evidence that vaccines are in fact legit and effective with minimal side effects most of which are a sore spot from the injection and an equal sized pile of evidence that they're causing massive problems in society.

Since we cannot compel them to be vaccinated, I say we round them up, drive them out to Cleveland, and confine them to Fairfax.  If they want to leave Ohio, the only way out's vaccination.  I imagine 99% compliance and a lot of hate mail from Cleveland residents.

Now now, we're supposed to treat these anti-vax people as very intelligent, informed parents who have legitimate concerns and spend a lot of time doing their homework on reputable sources like youtube and facebook.

Ban the kids from public schools and general public areas like parks/playground as a health and safety risk.

Plus, if their unvaxinated crotchfruit gets another person sick, charge them with attempted murder and if the person infected by the unvaxinated crotchfruit dies, charge them with first-degree murder since they know exactly what they are doing.

You don't get to just force your stupid on other people without consequences.

Yep some idiots are gunna get hurt and maybe even die sooner than they otherwise would.  And some people who depend on herd immunity are getting farked.  And that's not right.  Its awful.  But that's a tiny, tiny part of the population.  And I can't do shiat about that.  Im not going to get all outraged or freak over that.  More people die from preventable diseases than anything else, and half the world's roughly 7 billion people live on less than 2 bucks per day.  Perspective.

Because you can trace from an infected person to the kid they picked it up from. Boy you really are a person of science all right.

Here's the answer: that child tax credit you get on your taxes? You only get it with proof of vaccination or a very good reason reviewed by an impartial doctor why your kid can't take the shot.

You're not being forced. But you know with a couple of grand a year on the line, the crowd that claims vaccines are poison would suddenly decide its all just fine.

whither_apophis: I notice the anti-vaxxers never say anything about rabies vaccines

I'd rather they didn't honestly. Rabies vaccines are generally administered after contact has been made (or thought to have been made) with the disease. I'd rather not have anti-vaxxers think other vaccines can work the same way and thus have even less need to inoculate their children./I ignored the fact that once you start showing outward signs of rabies it's too late for the vaccine since that fact would be lost on anti-vax crowd.

I often wonder why anti-vaxxers aren't into bloodletting in order to balance their humours, given it fell out of practice around the same time as vaccines started catching on.

Except you do.  The vulnerable population may bring sickness into the community and vaccinations (while highly effective) can wear off or simply place the individual in the small percentage that may still get sick.  The loss of heard immunity places all of society at risk.  Barring a medical reason an individual cannot get vaccinated, it should be compulsory to receive public benefits of any kind (tax credit, food and housing assistance, education) to ensure a maximum level of compliance.

Fun fact: sometimes vaccines just don't take. Other times they wear off. In other words, yeah you're *probably* safe, but don't count on it.

Years ago, George Carlin had a bit about how the world could defend itself against unchecked human proliferation. He opined on viruses, and their ability to mutate. Suggested that one that was lethal, and was transferred in such a way that it would make people become fearful of having sex. This lead to a decrease in population from deaths and lack of procreation. Of course, he was alluding to HIV and AIDS. This bit was done in the 80s, when there were huge fears regarding HIV and AIDS.

Little did he know that we'd become so god damned stupid that we, as a species, would eschew all of the safeguards and protections created through medical science and allow ourselves to die of diseases that affected human populations centuries ago and which had been effectively eliminated.

Just another Heartland Weirdass: Im vaxed, as is everyone I care about.  I got nothing to worry about.

You should worry about your lack of education, among other things.

No vaccine is 100% effective, a small percentage of people are not protected after vaccination and for others the protection may wane over time. Also, some people are unable to be vaccinated due to certain conditions such as immune suppression. Maintaining immunity in those around these people protects them from disease.

Link contains helpful info on about when you need a booster for various shots, but it's an average. If you or a loved one are one of the lucky few that don't get an immune response from a vaccine, you probably won't know it until you pick up a disease. Nice how you don't care about people unless you know them personally, are you a member of the GOP?

Herd immunity benefits everyone. We shouldn't allow it to be whittled away because, "Well, I'll be safe, only the idiots will die." Idiots, and people who need organ transplants, and babies, and people who didn't get enough immunity from the vaccine, and, and, and... It benefits you to care about society, jackass.

I've said it before. Anti-vaxxers and their kids need to be branded. Maybe a small tattoo on their face like on the side of their nose or somewhere else that makes it hard to hide or obvious if they're trying to hide it.

Then when the Apocalypse comes and it's time to rebuild, everyone knows who the threats to the future are are and they can be cleaned up.

I disagree.  Vaccines work, there is a risk but it is manageable.   Zero risk, or even "literally doing everything humanly  possible to reduce the risk"  isn't possible or even worth the costs.  I feel safe in this department, i think you should too.

Then again, i got vaxed as a kid, again in boot camp, got some more in college because my childhood records were lost and i couldn't get anything out of the military, then got more heb b  when i started a medical career. The viruses are afraid of me.

I can get it pre-exposure if I want. I just don't want to spend the hundreds of dollars, and it's very unlikely that I'll be attacked by a rabid animal.

Here is what we do:

Make every parent/individual sign a waiver for each and every vaccine they refuse, in whole or in part.  Waiver states that they are 100% legally and financially responsible for all care related to any diseases that they or their child contracts that could have been vaccinated against, for the rest of their lives.  Furthermore,  they will be held fully responsible for any transmission of the same disease. Go to a Trail Blazers game with measles and infect others?  *BAMN* you are now responsible for the medical care of everyone else who becomes infected.
