That was easy. I had an X-1/9 when I was 19. THAT took the kind of determination that only teenager hormones can muster up.

MTV played that Sledgehammer video about twice an hour for a few years.. until Peter himself begged them to stop playing it so much.  I'm still burned out on the song.

I've no idea what was playing in the background.  I was tripping balls. Glow in the dark paint was involved.

Amazon Prime has been running a series of Classic Album TV specials, and fans of "So" will definitely learn a ton they didn't know before if they watch that one. (Oddly, they completely skip any discussion of "Big Time," while diving deep into every other song on the album.)

My male v-card was given up to the dulcet tones of "Elton John's Greatest Hits, Vol. 1."

My female v-card was handed over to the sweet, sweet sounds of Portishead - Dummy.

/personally, I think that the promo videos for Gabriel's "I Can't Remember" and "Steam" are superior to "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time."

The bass line is delicious, and the bass sound (fretless with octaver and compressed to hell) is completely crazy - gotta love Tony Levin.

OMG!  We were having this conversation at lunch with some 'younger vs. older' coworkers...talking about MTV and how it changed things....why Freddie Mercury will never be rivaled (Brotha never used, and goddamned never needed autotune to sound like him.)....and how earlier videos were 'better' because creating them was a sandbox for creativity....and out database guy brought this vid up yesterday as 'You won't ever get to be 'wowed' like we were with this, because CGI has desensitized you to what the medium can do. '

That was, in fact, the best music video ever made.

Right after I saw it for the first time, it seems like videos were over. I don't understand why that happened--I mean, besides money. Music videos were farking great.

However, iirc, it was second to Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" on MTV's "Greatest Videos of All Time" that year.

Because nothing says "great video" like staged concert footage.

YES, I'M BITTER. IT WAS IMPORTANT AT THE TIME
