I have a couple cans of Spam in my pantry, sometimes it hits the exact right spot of fat, salt and laziness.  But if I'm going to a restaurant, you know what's a lot better than Spam?  Ham.

Spam is awesome. The Japanese ripoff made from pork and fish slurry is great too. Crisp it up in a pan, throw some fried eggs on top, and you've got yourself a breakfast.

/pork and beans with SPAM. Perfect!

"Any chef that says that they don't like Spam is a liar," says ButterCream BakeShop's Tiffany MacIsaac, who ate her fair share of Spam while growing up in Maui and continues to cook with it at home. "It's so salty...

Because "salty" is so rare and tough to achieve.

My wife is Japanese and her moms family is from Hawaii so I married into a spam family. In moderation it can be good. Spam musubi and spam with eggs are a couple of my favorite.

A number of years ago, I spent a month working in Cancun. They served us breakfast every morning, and it was uniformly awful. The only decent-tasting thing they served was fried Spam, and they only had that twice.

We're not all blowing three and four figures on a single fifth of poorly-made Irish whiskey. Pizza, burgers, avocados, and Spam are a wee bit more accessible.

Eh, I wouldn't exactly call this thread lively. There's really not all that much to discuss. It's Spam: you hate it, you don't mind it, or you're here to make the Monty Python joke.

There was a great whiskey discussion thread last June. Bunnahabhain 12 found its way into my usual stock because of recommendations made therein. But unless you're trying to keep up with whatever latest "small batch" bourbon or whiskey is being churned out by that warehouse distillery in Indiana, I'm not sure the market is changing fast enough to warrant a big crazy thread more often than every couple of years or so.

It's just called "Burger." The ingredients list is cringe inducing, but I love it. I intend to eat half of this one when I get back from my morning run:

Rough translation.

Fish Paste Cake Product:

Fish meat, starch, plant protein, lard, starch syrup, bred crumbs, salt, pork, gelatin, onion extract, egg protein, flavoring, seashell calcium, seasoning, food coloring, antioxidant.

Missed a good one in between starch syrup and bread crumbs. Pork fat.

Lard and pork fat. Yay!

I've been told not to cook it up because it's too stinky. I shilly-shallied on my run and everyone is awake :/ Next time.

I used to do radar and radio repair servicing merchant ships working with another tech. He was old school and told me more than once when we're eating at Captain's table, never ask what it is you're eating. It is considered a bit rude.
Unfortunately, he didn't take his own advice while servicing an Italian merchant ship's radio and radar, and once, stopped in the beginning of a meal and inquired. "By the way, Captain, what is it that we are eating here."
To which the Captain very energetically replied with the heavy Italian accent, "It is...how you say...from head of goat...uh, the Brains, no?"
We had been eating batter-dipped and deep-fried, sliced goat brains.
Since I was already on my second serving, it didn't matter any longer to me.
However, my buddy, visibly got 'green' and I'm certain it was touch and go for him for a long moment.
I finished, drank my 3 Black Labels (the preferred drink on many, many merchant ships!) and simply waited for almost 20 minutes while my now-not-so-hungry friend tried to eat around the breaded delicacy in front of him.
He just couldn't do it.
Had I known what it was prior, I probably would have declined it and gorged on bread or something but i was just acting as instructed. I survived with no harm, no foul and a full belly.
We had to stop at the first fast food joint once we got back on shore somewhere in Delaware, though.
He was starving! Ahahahahaha!!!
I'm thinking he learned to practice what you preach...

Mom's depression era Spam and beans recipe

Mix large handful of brown sugar and a heaping tsp. of hot Chinese mustard into a can of baked beans; place in baking dish. Slice Spam, place on top of beans. Slice one navel orange, place on top of Spam. Sprinkle more brown sugar on top, bake until hot and bubbly.

This is actually pretty good!

I like to dice it up and fry it and toss it in with some peppers and a scrambled egg. Makes a pretty good breakfast burrito.
