oh, free birth? Doesn't matter, still obnoxiously self-centered and stupid.

At least she isn't successfully reproducing.

Good job. Your stalwart insistence on ignorance killed your child.

I had a coworker sort of like this. She was definitely going to have a natural birth, totally at home, because the doctors had no idea what they were talking about!

Her water broke around eight months and she definitely started listening to them then. Thankfully it turned out for the best, and I don't mean that in a sarcastic or cruel fashion.

Yeah everyone should resort to natural birth, like they do in Somalia - and I've certainly never heard of children being stillborn over there...

Given that the US has the worst infant mortality rates in the developed world....

I don't think I have an actual point. Just go see doctors for your pre natal checkups. And make it so every pregnant woman can do the same.

We are so far removed from the days that 5/7 kids died young that people will spit in the faces of the people who got us here because "Debbie" from holisticgranolachakras.org holds more sway with some people than entire fields of research and evidence.

I'm not fat because I eat McDonalds 5 meals a day, some people are just fat.

Given that up until the 20th century and scientific advances in medicine and fetal care, nearly 1/4th of all pregnancies ended in pre/post-natal death for the child (and sometimes the mother too), having a natural birth the way it was done in olden times is farking stupid.

2019-02-21 06:02:29 AM
In an update to the group, she remained confused about how the baby could have died. She couldn't understand how everything went so terribly wrong.

Aww, sweetie, here let me help out with that. Your baby died because you're an idiot who makes poor life decisions. Hope that clears up any confusion.

FTA: "In an update to the group, she remained confused about how the baby could have died. She couldn't understand how everything went so terribly wrong."

Jesus Christ...  Because you literally did everything against medical advice because you thought you knew better than medical professionals who will have dealt with hundreds, if not thousands, of pregnancies and births themselves and rely on decades or more of accumulated (modern) medical findings, backed up with thousands of years of traditional medical experience...

"Additionally, she said that she had never heard of a single infant dying from placental insufficiency."

How many farking kids have you actually had?  How many pregnancies have you been involved with?

Holy shiatballs these people are deluded.  Never mind governments calling on the so called internet giants like Facebook to monitor "fake news", this sort of harmful shiat should be investigated.  Fake news might be detrimental to society, but at least it isn't actively killing people.

If it wasn't for the fact that this woman has lost a baby, I would suggest that she be charged for neglect.  This was a willful act she performed against all medical advice.

2019-02-21 06:14:06 AM
I wouldn't think that chugging castor oil is a natural thing to do? And by googling, on the first page of results:

"The results of castor oil inducing labor are mixed. ... When it's effective at beginning labor, castor oil may cause irregular and painful contractions, which can be stressful to mom and baby alike. This can lead to exhaustion. It may also cause your baby to pass meconium, or their first stool, before delivery."

2019-02-21 06:15:37 AM
Is it too much to hope for that this stunt also made her infertile?

2019-02-21 06:18:17 AM
That sounds like criminal neglect resulting in the death of a person. Looks like homicide to me.

2019-02-21 06:19:59 AM
Fetal distress during labor can cause babies to release meconium. Meconium aspiration can lead to pneumonia and death.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but I have two kids and I was involved in the birthing process. This baby most likely drowned in its own shiat. That's what meconium is.

Shame on these people.

WTF is this shiat? Suddenly a fetus at 45 weeks gestation is a "kid".

No no no, libs. Spare me your righteous indignation. You aren't allowed to hold the moral high ground on this issue.

It's another facet of the hostility any form of Education constantly faces in the US, specifically in this instance towards people with higher education. Hate and distrust professionals in their field (because they think they're better than us, huh! (they don't, they just know and understand more)) to the point of self-harm and financial disaster, then blame the professionals for not preventing said disaster.

Yeah because doctors know it's a thing so they do what they can to prevent it now.
Also, I've known a few people that have had stillborns and several who've had miscarriages. I've never asked why. None of my business.

Surprisingly, things that would be present mainly in medical journals and medical textbooks might not be easily found in curiousitory Google searches.  It's almost as if professionals have access to detailed raw information related to their field the general public doesn't so that they can process that information and provide expert advice about it.

I'm usually a reserved person that quietly goes about my business. If I get a couple of beers in me, then the logic demon breaks free. Not that I'm mean or anything, my partner can attest to that. I just don't suffer foolishness like this lady's poor life choices as easily.

GardenWeasel: No, nothing on Google at all.

No no, I'm not saying "Those ebil doctors were hidin' the info!".  I'm saying that actual cases of it would be in stuff that generally only doctors to have access to...because they're doctors.  Doctor Beatrice is going to have much better access to detailed medical knowledge than Sally-Sue two doors down, so you should listen to the medical professional over the uneducated simpleton.
/as in, medical case files examining cases of something like placental insufficiency would be in journals not accessible by Google because normally the specifics of miscarriages don't make the news, if the miscarriage itself somehow does

//also, that screencap just describes the complication, not providing a case where it actually happened.  They obviously knew about what placental insufficiency was; they were deluded into thinking that just because THEY didn't know of any cases happening that meant it doesn't actually happen.

Darwin called this natural selection.

Folks this willfully ignorant or this stupid don't need to pass their genes on.

2019-02-21 07:04:15 AM

GardenWeasel: No, nothing on Google at all.

To clarify further; the idiots in her "support group" said that "Sometimes, babies just die".  Sure, sometimes babies die...and doctors generally have access to case studies showing why they died.  The average person might have access to Google saying there are "X miscarriages" in a given year, but doctors have access to stuff that breaks it down into "X miscarriages because of Y".

In short, they're idiots proclaiming their ignorance of something means the absence of it, and never stop to think their ignorance is because they're rejecting the experts and knowledge of the field that would prove them wrong.
