I have to agree with Al, he said it isn't a left wing or right wing thing since Donny Trump fell for it.  It actually is a matter of whether you are an idiot or not, and are you  stupid enough to fall for such an obvious scam.

I don't even know why they are investigating this.  I thought you are always supposed to believe the victim 100% of the time regardless of every tenet of our justice system.

/ Next Step:  See what celebrities basically express remorse that a black man WASN'T attacked and beaten in the streets, because even though this time it didn't really happen, they are just sure it is happening all over the place and this will detract from hating Trump and (if you're Ellen Page) Mike Pence for fictional reasons.

There isn't a good source for false-positive numbers, but roughly 1% of applications are denied.

10% of rejected applications are investigated. 2/3rds of these are 3-day rejections. 1/3rd are delayed rejections, where the FBI took too long to get off their ass and the gun was transferred to someone who shouldn't have been approved. Standard rejections are essentially never prosecuted. Rough 13 in 10,000. Of delayed rejections, 1 in 100 result in charges. 25% of both sets result in convictions.

So 4 in 10,000 of standard rejections result in a conviction. 1% are rejected. Basically 4 in a million applicants will be convicted after the 3-day application review. This is attributed to investigators, prosecutors, judges, and juries all devaluing these cases and the fact that prosecutors usually can't prove intent (it's not a strict liability crime). Now, at each pruning step, false positives get pruned. Some of the 90% dropped are cases that weren't worth pursuing, but some are people who should have been approved. Some in the next 75%-99.9% prune are also false positives. I'm less inclined to think there are many false positives in the group actually brought to trial, but I can't prove otherwise. Your rights were still trampled upon, but usually it doesn't result in prosecution.

Most people dont listen to Sharpton's opinions. The only reason he gets on TV is because he would always call the station volunteering to come on. His opinions dont reflect a majority of people.

I like his take that if this was perpetrated as a hoax, they need to be persecuted to the full extent of the law. If he wants to wait until more information comes out before making any further opinions of what happened, more power to him.

My eyes didn't roll out of my head after listening to one of his arguments for a change.

Zardoz: Zardoz speaks to you, his chosen ones. You have been raised up from brutality, to kill the brutals who multiply, and are legion. To this end, Zardoz your god gave you the gift of the gun. The gun is good.
Exterminators:
The gun is good.
Zardoz: The penis is evil. The penis shoots seeds, and makes new life, and poisons the earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the gun shoots death, and purifies the earth of the filth of brutals. Go forth and kill!

I mean, who are you of all people to argue with the flying head?

I'm just kind of baffled that anyone i.e. Jussie Smolllett who pays the least bit of attention to social media didn't realize that there would be CCTV's on every block, that the footage from them would cause problems later.

I imagine that he just assumed that no one would question what must be a given in the bubble in which he lives. He no doubt thought,  "Who will wonder whether or not Trump supporters would bash a gay black man?"
One of the strangest theories I heard mentioned, from Adam Corolla I think, was that Smollett got those scratches on his face earlier that evening at a club during a fight with his boyfriend over another man.

Don't blame these poor fools. They're just following the hypocrite's creed:

"This is my hypocritical judgment. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My hypocritical judgment is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My hypocritical judgment, without me, is still pretty potent. Without my hypocritical judgment, I am useless. I must fire my hypocritical judgment true. I must lob my baseless accusations straighter than my enemy who is trying to destroy my reputation and my credibility. I must hypocritically judge and accuse them before they hypocritically judge and accuse me.

My hypocritical judgment and I know that what counts in this war of words is not the empty rhetoric we spew, the noise our face holes make, nor the chaos we create. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit. My hypocritical judgment is inhumane, even as I, because it is nothing but half-truths and lies.

Thus, I will learn to use it against anyone and everyone, including my own brethren, if need be. I will learn their weaknesses, their strengths, their vulnerable parts, and put them all squarely in my sights. I will ever guard my hypocritical judgment against facts, truth, and the consequences of my actions.

I will keep my hypocritical judgment sharp and ready. We will become a part of each other. Before myself, I swear this creed. My hypocritical judgment and myself are the defenders of my political, social, and personal bias. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of the lives we deem worth saving. So be it, until victory is my political and social group's and there is no enemy... until I create new ones out of unsuspecting people with opinions and beliefs that differ from mine."
