I fully expect my Royals to fail horribly. The mass exodus after the 2015 WS win hurt the team significantly.

I expect the same as last year, and the year before that

lose in WS

Considering there's still dozens of unsigned free agents, the pre spring training power rankings are an even dumber exercise than usual.

2019-02-16 05:40:49 PM
That's a pretty big drop for the team with the best record in the NL last year. They're due for some regression, sure, but they're still talented.  Frankly, I think the Brewers, Cubs and Cards are like a three way tie from 7-9 or so.

same s the past 2 years - run away with the division while still not living up to potential, then lose in the first round

time to burn it down and rebuild after this year, the rest of the division is catching up and we aren't going to spend any more money

The Braves aren't spending (other than Donaldson who will be 34 and seems to be breaking down a lot), and the Rockies are kind of sitting on their hands too, just filling in the divots left by free agency.  I hope one or both can surprise everybody a bit.

Dead for Tax Reasons: the rest of the division is catching up

Are you talking about the AL Central? Nah. It'll still be a trash heap this year.

it also has to do with us having an outfield composed entirely of 5th outfielders, three 3rd catchers and a bullpen with 1 real pitcher

The Mariners will lose 90 games. You heard it here first.

2019-02-16 06:31:51 PM
Angels at #18, that's about right. I think they're going to struggle to go 81-81 as they've done squat to improve the longstanding pitching, third base and second base problems. Brad Ausmus doesn't seem to be the answer either and Arte Moreno still owns the team.

Cubs are maybe a bit high at 5 and Brewers definitely too low at 12. impending free agent signings will shake up things, especially if Harper and Machado end up on teams that are only one good player away from competing.

Yanks at #2 overall?  Meh.

Yeah the SR is stronger on paper than it was last year.  It's also one or two major injuries away from "Hey, is there anyone in the scrap heap we can pickup to eat innings?"

Hot take of the season (so far):  Think the Yanks should trade Stanton to the Dodgers; at times he looked uncomfortable having the spotlight on him post-trade.  Perhaps going home to SoCal and playing before that crowd will let him take a breath and just enjoy playing again everyday.

Then sign Harper.

Absolutely not. Stanton will be fine and I'd be thrilled if the Yankees never signed another Boras client again. The Yankees' outfield is fine. Only thing I'd change is to somehow wish away Ellsbury's contract and/or somehow get Trout.

I hear you about Boras after the A-fraud fiasco; even though Harper's what, 26?, I'm not that confident about a Boras client giving the Yanks what he's worth.

Still, I'm worried about Byrd at 1st.  Sounds like he's someone that will never be healthy enough to play everyday 1st.  Am I wrong in remembering that Stanton played some 1st with the Marlins in his first couple of seasons in the majors? Why not stick him there?

Hell, I'm not even thinking THAT far back. Ellsbury is a Boras man, who got a fat $21M to spend the entire last season at home and is pretty much guaranteed to miss the start of THIS season too.

Josh single evenhandedly gave the Rangers the World Series.  Ron Washington, Darren Oliver and Nelson Cruz decided they did not want it.  Game 6 cost me 10 years of my life.

It also cost me a toilet, as I crashed into the bathroom, drunk and knocked it down like a linebacker.  Blue water in the tank exploded everywhere.

The three of them suffer from the fact that they all have a quarter of their schedule against each other. Which kind of sucks considering they're all decent teams.

I've already resigned myself to the idea that Mike Trout will bail on the Angels and don't blame him. He's easily one of the best players in the major leagues and the Angels are floundering/in rebuilt mode. Why not go somewhere close to where he grew up, make a
lot of money and maybe be on a team that will win the World Series?
