This is one of my favorite shows currently running.

So many excellent performances.

well deserved.

It's pretty typical these days that any successful show's cast gets a raise in their third season. That said, good for them since the show is delightful.

Seems fair, my penis gets a huge raise from Mrs Maisel

More maisel please! Wonderful show and the pay raise is well earned.

He really is. I'll watch something just because he is in it.

Amusingly, he has commented that growing up in Green Bay, in any school production he would be given any role that could be considered "ethnic". He is of Lebanese descent, and in Wisconsin that makes him pretty much universally "foreign". Anyway, I can't help thinking about that while watching him play a New York jew...

Also, he was fabulous in Men In Black

The actress is really cute.

The show is stupid. Everyone is a cliche (which I realize is the point, but it sucks), and it's not funny.

Being Lebanese everybody probably assumes he's Muslim too, other than what he is: catholic.

Most people haven't seen one of his best parts

That surprises me. If you'd told me he was Christian, I would have guessed Maronite, or possibly Orthodox.

/People are often surprised to learn that Lebanon has almost as many Christians as Muslims

I agree with you on half of this - 'the actress is really cute'.  But I also think the show is a joy.  It can be Very funny.  Once in a great while it's a little too over-the-top, but in the overall, the period settings, cars, clothing...the performances, etc.... it's quite refreshing.

I would watch a show that was just Mrs Maisel doing her measurement ritual in various styles of vintage undergarments.

I was going to mention The Man Who Wasn't There. I saw it in a theater, but I've never heard anybody speak of it. It has to be about the least-viewed Coen bros. film.

I'd watch a spinoff featuring Susie and Imogene on a road trip together.

I'm less interested in many of the secondary characters' story arcs. Especially both sets of parents, but I'm fully Team Joel. I find his redemption story to be rather interesting.

The SO loves it and she has pretty good taste, but it's a little cutesy for me as well as being about stand up,a subject I have less than zero interest in. Her accent also makes me want to kill myself. So,for fully grumpy old man reasons I do not care for it. No sir.

no one is criticizing the people you agree with.  They voice their opinion, and so did this guy.  He doesn't like it.  Just move on.

Can't stand the parents but the story of Joel breaking free of them and becoming his own person is decently told.

I don't think you're supposed to like his parents considering the entire arc in the Catskills. However, I think we're supposed to sympathize with Joel, and I just don't. He's annoying. Team Benjamin all the way.

No, he really didn't. Some people share this opinion. What this guy did was try to pretend that he is so much edgier and more perceptive than people who uncritically enjoy the show. And nobody is impressed with his edginess.

Somebody who doesn't like it would not feel the need to let the rest of us know. See also: people who are compelled to let us know that they don't like the Beatles, or soccer.

Pollack is great! One of the things I love about the first season is how Joel is an aspiring comic, yet everyone around him is significantly funnier than him. And his dad is exhibit B of that.

The trip to Paris derailed season 2 for way too long although it was nice seeing Midge's parents being competent.

I still can't believe Midge cheated on him with Joel. Joel dug his grave by leaving her in the first episode. And for a really stupid reason. I'm not sure he deserves redemption.

My wife and I love the show. It's fresh and different. I think it's a really welcome change-up from all of the overly serious crime, fantasy, etc. that seemingly makes up a huge chunk of the TV slate these days.

Maronites are Catholic.

Well, kind of. Maronites are one of the Eastern Catholic churches that recognize the Pope and are in "full communion" with the Catholic church, while still retaining their own autonomy and laws. (See also: the Coptic church.)

So technically you could say his church is part of the larger Catholic church, but if you asked him or his parents what they identify as, they would say Maronite. And if you asked 99% of Catholics what they think "Catholic" means, they would (probably) identify it with the latin Church; I'd bet many of them think that the eastern churches are actually Orthodox. Calling him "Catholic" really gives the wrong impression to people not familiar with the nuances of canon law...

(CSB: My wife's family are Italian Catholics -- actual Italian, not "Italian American" -- apart from one Maronite grandfather.)

Did she cheat on Benjamin though? I got the impression that she realized she doesn't have a desire to ever be married again and broke up with him.
