It was that day Tanika decided to move to Barbados.

That's absolutely the dumbest goddamn driving I've seen in years. Why the fark you doing highway speed IN THE SNOW?

2019-02-15 10:04:33 PM
Subby, what are you saying? If nobody ever drove like a moron, where would we get these videos?

2019-02-15 10:18:51 PM
Does no one care about their car? I want to get where I'm going as soon as possible, too, but I'm not going to risk my car driving fast in slick and low visibility conditions. Not like i have a nice car, either.

Glad everyone knows THEY would not do this. Everyone in that pile up probably says it until they're in it.

This happened outside KC. It hit STL awhile later when I was out.

When the storm blew thru, it was light snow. Visibility was fine almost everywhere. You see at the end how far around you can see.

The snow was barely dusting the road but it got slick in spots. And the snow was blown around trashing visibility for short periods in isolated spaces.

It was like the fog that suddenly chokes a valley and you fly into it before realizing its bad.

I'll guarantee since it was I-70, that they were all from out of state. I learned how to drive on the interstate as a teenager, by driving on I-70. If you're from there, you know better. It snows every year, just like this.

In Seattle they would've just abandoned their cars. Who's laughing now?

2019-02-16 12:46:53 AM
In prime, bright daylight dry conditions, you should still drive like the guy in front of you is going to slam on the goddamn brakes for no reason whatsoever.

2019-02-16 01:54:57 AM
Look more than two feet in front of your bumper! None of those drivers seemed to notice the huge pileup of cars right in front of them.

No Graphic warning in the headline concerning the people mangled in the one car at the end of the video (one of which apparently still breathing)?

Is it really "graphic" when they're barely-discernible blurs? Camera work here is somewhere between drunken deer and caffeinated marmoset.

Yeah, visibility plays a huge part as well, even on roads with no snow...

50 foot visibility

2-foot visibility
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/100-car-pileup-kills-2-in-california/

That's not a typo. 2 feet of visibility. Now, it was also patchy fog, which is common in the Valley. Meaning that the sky is clear, you're cruising along at 65-70, then all of a sudden, you're enveloped in this thick fog.

Still dumbasses for not listening to the weather report and not noticing the FARKING SOLID WHITE WALL OF FOG  YOU'RE COMING UP ON. MAYBE YOU SHOULD START TO SLOW DOWN, YA THINK?

We've had that as well on the trip either north or south between the Southern Cape and Windhoek. Early morning on the highway, you go around a hill and there's a solid wall of fog in front of you. You either slow down or almost absolutely guarantee wrecking yourself.

Yeah, California also has a stretch like that; Hwy 65, from Tulare (okay, 30 miles of it is technically 198) to Bakersfield. As you start getting closer to Bakersfield, there's lots of hills/rises and it's a 2-lane Highway. And lots of blind curves in the hills. It's a large freight corridor as well, oil tankers coming from the fields near Bakersfield and going north to distributors and stations along 65. And it can get the patchy fog and highly limited visibility just like the rest of the Valley. Brown shorts road in the winter, for sure.

True, not "graphic" but needs a "some viewers might find disturbing".

And since I'm posting, I might as well go for an awkwardly sexist-, racist-sounding post:
Was that a black, female truck drive?

/truckers I've seen were predominantly white and predominantly male
//might have to do with the locations where I have lived?

One of the best upgrades I did to my Subaru was a set of Blizzaks on steel wheels.  I'd swap them out at first snow, it would make that car drive like you were on a gravel road at the worst, even on a frozen lake.

It's just standard practice here in Sweden. Even us southerners have them on November through March, even although we technically didn't get a winter here this year*, the ones on our car will stay on till Mid March, just incase of a coldsnap!

*The average temp has to be below 0C for a 7-day long stint for it to be considered 'winter' in Sweden. Skåne just hasn't had that, despte the north being whiteout.

Go far enough north in America, and yes.  This was in the pasty, muffin-topped middle of America. They get snow, but not quite frequently enough for everyone to put on winters.

At Summit Point Raceway, the instructor will tell you - "if a meteor falls from the sky and crushes your car, that's an accident. Everything else is driver error."
