whither_apophis: sounds like a good way to get a broken nose and the puncher has a lock-solid built in defense

<csb?>
Many years ago there was this one man who would always come up behind people while they were sitting in the break room and make loud noises right behind them.  Just to see them jump.  He was asked multiple times to stop.

One day I was sitting there and he came up behind me.  Did made his noise.  Startled me so much my elbow swung back and made direct contact with his crotch with a great deal of force.

He never did it to anyone again.

I would go so far as to say that any kid who pulls that deserves to have the shiat beaten out of them.

I'm kinda surprised freshmen would be assholes to the upper class men like that. I'm also surprised no one has beaten the shiat out of them after the first couple of times.

When my stepson was in kindergarten his elementary school had a problem with a kid who would sneak up behind someone and scream or start punching them.

This behavior was brought to an abrupt end when he punched a third-grader in the bathroom and the third-grader went LA Confidential on the kid (i.e. dunked the kid's head in the toilet and flushed, then body slammed kid against a door.  Only thing he didn't do was dangle him out a window).

CSB, indeed.

There's a guy at work who has been trying to sneak up and startle me for years. He never succeeds. I always see his motion either in my peripheral vision, or a vague reflection in my glasses.

Who knew 14 year olds in the midst of puberty and with relatively few years of social experience and worldly education could be complete assholes?

It's like people forget what it was like to be that age...there's always a group like this, and at some point all of us went through that phase. Then consequences inevitably educated most of us.

Yep.  As my stepson said "he got a swirly then (third grader) mashed him into the door."  A hard-boiled detective novel couldn't have put it better.

One time when I was much younger, my brother was home on leave from the Iraq war (2005 or so) and I remember thinking it would be funny to play some huge cymbals behind him as a surprise.

I did that once. And I've felt very stupid ever sense. PTSD is real and it's not funny and fark those asshole kids.

2019-02-16 12:28:38 AM
PTSD, huh?  After just one mission?  Won't somebody think of the troops?

And the person with PTSD will get away with it too, what with a PTSD defense.

On top of that, people with mental health problems are a protected class.  Terrorizing them could get you a hate crime enhancer.

Never understood that kind of shiat, but I've also worked in enough places where that kind of stupid crap is gonna get someone hurt.  Carried over even into office jobs where it technically didn't matter - you just don't do that.  We had one guy try it with a secretary once.  He was already on thin ice from some messed up rapey 'jokes' he'd told, after that he was instantly out the door and looking for a new job.  Our briefest employee ever - about 27 hours.

/he was also hiding from the secretary
//she did amateur kickboxing tourneys from time to time
///she gave him an idea of the rearranging that was going to occur if he crossed her path again

I never understood why some people seem to believe that being an asshole is how to be perceived as cool; even more baffling is how it works for some, and people want to be around that.

Hope these kids get the help they need. They've gone through enough unnecessary pain for a lifetime, and way too young.

There are always a few reallllly stupid kids. Those are the kids that need to be removed from the public education environment in the first place. Forced placement into a military type of training ... for a start. And yeah they do deserve the ass beating if they get one. No sympathy for idiots. But smashing them at a young age would largely prevent idiotic behaviors at an older age.

Because juvenile bootcamp programs, especially in Florida, have such a stellar reputation.

A guy did that to me when I worked at a casino...I was carrying a full rack of chips and jumped so hard I almost dropped a hundred dollars into a crowd. Lucky it was just a rack of dollar chips.

I threatened him with a sexual harassment charge if he did that again...I never did forgive him for that stupid stunt. What if I'd been carrying a tray of black chips?
