Those sheriffs can always find another line of work. Perhaps the NRA is hiring.

According to Sheriffs, they are the only law West of the Mississippi. So them that fancy-pants legislators better mind their own bidness.

House bill 130 aims penalizes gun owners who don't store guns safely around children

"I demand the right to leave loaded weapons strewn around the house where anyone can get them because I'm terrified someone might break into my house.  Better to go the way my momma did, shot by accident by pappy when she came to be late and he mistook her for one of those mex-i-cans that wanted to rape him."

I'm proud to say I'm a constitutional sheriff and I'm just not going to enforce an unconstitutional law,

Ah yes, the old "constitutional expert disguised as a dumb fark sheriff" trick.

And as soon as one of "those people" (or just the Sheriff's niece's ex-boyfriend) tries to exercise that "constitutional right" you'll see exactly how "constitutional" these sheriffs are.

Submitter: I think people who have restraining orders against them should be able to purchase guns. I also think that loaded guns should be left within reach of children. But I'm too much of a coward to come out and say that so I'll submit a stupid headline on Fark.

The answer you are most likely to get from our local gun nuts is that they need instant access to loaded guns because they're such high profile targets that people are breaking into their trailers all the time.

Yeah, they're doing IMPORTANT shiat, like looking for prayer rugs in the desert.

2019-02-08 4:48:04 PM
Really? Don't store guns safely when you have kids around? Well I guess that's a sad self correcting New Mexico problem.

2019-02-08 4:48:24 PM
If you have laws that already address these problems, sheriff, howcome you aren't enforcing them?

We need to give the police more power to harass civilians. Because they've proven so trustworthy without oversight and accountability.

Do we really want to live in a country where this kind of thing is criminalized?

As a good Christian you can't have an
abortion, but if you don't want a certain child, you can leave guns around and cross your fingers or leave it in a hot car...or both.

"You're just taking guns out of law-abiding citizen's hands," Lea County Sheriff Corey Helton. "This is not going to affect the criminals out there. They're going to be able to get guns and they do not follow the law."

Sooo...the Sheriff is telling the world that he's bad at his job?  So wtf are they paying him for?

Washington State cops did the same thing. Bunch of whiners.

Sheriffs enforce the law.

They have no say in passing them. As they shouldn't.

2019-02-08 4:54:59 PM
If you fail to secure a gun in your house and a child uses it to injure or kill, you should bear the full penalty as if you shot the gun yourself.

And...

Recent Supreme Court rulings have made it clear, A STATE Legislature is EXACTLY The Legal point in which legislation managing the sale and use of firearms within American society is allowed.

FTA: House bill 83 would allow law enforcement to temporarily seize guns from people considered an imminent threat while people subject to a protective order would be prohibited from buying guns under house bill 87.

House bill 130 aims penalizes gun owners who don't store guns safely around children and senate bill 8 looks to require background checks for private firearm sales.

We're taking guns from crazy motherfarkers and penalizing irresponsible gun owners? Oh god, the horror.

Sure, and people use it at other times, of course.

But 've noticed over the past couple years, this sort of tone, in the WKRC Local 12 Chumbook threads and a few other places, in how it's used. Like they're trying to cut with it.

Let's see...

"I'm proud to say I'm a constitutional sheriff and I'm just not going to enforce an unconstitutional law," (Sheriff) Helton said. "My oath prevents me from doing that."

-v-

"I'm proud to say I'm a constitutional citizen and I'm just not going to obey an unconstitutional law which arbitrarily defines marijuana as 'illegal,'" Joe Citizen, the veteran, said. "My oath prevents me from doing that."

So surely the sheriff can relate...

2019-02-08 5:03:54 PM
Clearly sheriffs are elected officials but who would want the vote from people unwilling to go along with these simple laws? I guess they all aspire to be a red state governor some day.

Marijuana in joints should be constitutionally protected under the 4th amendment

in 2017, there were 39,773 deaths by gun. 23,854 of them were self inflicted. On average, there were 11 murder-suicides a week.

yeah, the public needs those guns alright

Let me fix the headline for you submitter: "Pro-gun activists oppose gun control legislation."

2019-02-08 5:10:30 PM
I love the tortured logic these people use:
"There shouldn't be gun laws because criminals don't follow the law."

You could literally apply that to ANY law.

2019-02-08 5:11:30 PM
The safe-storage law, unfortunately, is only applied retroactively.  It's not like the police are conducting routine gun-storage checks and ticketing people.  It's like "Oh, your 5-year-old kid found your loaded gun and killed his sister, now we get to arrest you."

However, the passage won't hurt, and will probably help, as not every time a kid finds a gun there is a tragedy, so a few prosecutions will probably adjust at least some people's storage habits

There are enough quick-access safes on the market (see, market-based solution!) that quick access and safe storage are no longer polar opposites.

2019-02-08 5:12:10 PM
So I'm assuming the sheriffs have been lobbying for decriminalized weed all these years, seeing as they don't like their time wasted.

2019-02-08 5:12:36 PM
If you make it criminal to leave loaded firearms around toddlers, only criminals will be able to leave loaded firearms around toddlers!

2019-02-08 5:14:27 PM
Based on the descriptions given in the article, none of those bills should be a problem for actual "law abiding citizens"...not sure what the sheriffs are biatching about

At the same time, the excuse as to why they never stopped a known crazy person from having their gun is "he wasn't breaking any laws coontil he murdered a bunch of people)."

The Sheriff is likely using the Branch Dildonian language pocket consitution.

1. I can say whatever I want and you can't do shiat.
2. All the guns.
5. You don't have to snitch on yourself, but it means you're guilty.
10. The government is illegal.

2019-02-08 5:18:12 PM
Gun nuts do think of the kids.  In teeny little coffins and they jack off to it because Mah Freedums are worth more than any kid - even my own.
