I like her. She's got spunk.

The Republicans are still waiting on AOC to revert to the standard Democratic playbook of the last 40 years or so when they drop their policy talk at the first sign of Republican objection and all but apologize for suggesting it in the first place. It seems like every single one of them wants to be the one to take her down and every time they try she shows that not only does she not back down, she proves that she understands current realities and how the policy applies to them in a way that makes them look completely ignorant.

We've been waiting decades for Democrats like AOC. Assuming we survive the Trump presidency the future is looking good when AOC and her friends take control.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: we need more democrats that can talk to Republicans the way Republicans talk to everybody else,

AOC is that woman.

Because they lack the self-awareness to realize that the battle of wits has long since moved on from using quarterstaffs and cudgels.

They're afraid of her.  Deathly afraid.  They know she's the modern, socially adroit firebrand the establishment left has been lacking (and, let's be honest, didn't want and still doesn't) but sorely needed.  She doesn't play by the old rules, she doesn't bow to her political elders, she is smarter than the average bear, and she knows how to use the modern tools at her disposal both to get her message across, and to hoist her nay-sayers with their own ridiculous and ignorant petard.  What's more is that, at least so far (and granted, she's only had a month in office) she's not getting beaten down by internal politics.  She's still blazing her own trail with no signs of flagging yet.  I guess we'll see with time whether the House and Senate can beat the fire out of her, but I suspect that will be a hell of a lot harder than any of them thought, if it's possible at all.

AOC 2024 might end up a viable option.

Also, does he understand what marginal rates are?

AOC, meanwhile...

Can S&L go back to making fun of this guy now?

Doesn't the salary cap and TV profit sharing make the NFL an incredibly socialist business model?

Well. At least they managed to make an 'article' about AOC without an unflattering picture of her in mid-speech.

God damn Republicans are stupid. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. They are just lobbing AOC softballs.

It's rather unfair of AOC to burn up other people's strawmen without permission! Just what you'd expect from those heartless Lieberals.

Not if she keeps/gets chummy with Corbyn.

Per the reaction to AOC's 70% statement, no Republicans understand marginal tx rates, which seems liek a bad look for "the party of business."

Yes. That's why it's so unprofitable. I give it another three years tops before it finally crumbles.

Does this gentleman not know that the NFL has revenue sharing, and that Tom Brady has taken some very "team friendly" contracts in his career?

The NFL, and the Pats, are far more socialist already than he will ever admit.

MattytheMouse: Why do the witless keep trying to start a battle of wits with this woman?

They think they win.  In a sense they do, because they're competing with all the other right-wing nutjobs to get noticed.

Which is why for so long Democrats just ignored them, or "went high when they went low".

But that was neither satisfactory to the liberal base nor very persuasive to the people on the fence.  It's good to see AOC engaging them and putting them in their place.

2019-02-04 01:41:28 PM
People who would be hit by the 70% rate would still have more money than they know what to do with.

I don't feel that AOC should go unquestioned.  Any healthy society needs to have important discussions and debates.  But these fools that keep trying to one up her with a tweet or statement that hasn't been thought through need to stop.  She's playing whack-a-mole with them, and winning.

Of course she should not go unquestioned.  The problem is that the idiots that keep trying to catch her are going unquestioned.  In general we DO NOT have the smartest people going into leadership.  When it comes to Congress we generally have the best fundraisers going into leadership. It's a different class of people.

No, subby, the ball is snapped by the center or long-snapper.  Joe Theismann was a quarterback. The only time he ever snapped anything was.....

...oh, I just got it....

Yeah, that sounds about right, this was a hell of a burn.

French Rage: What does he think the purpose of the draft and salary cap are?

He does, but his audience doesn't. Republican politicians have no desire to disabuse their gaslit constituents of the false notion that Democrats are proposing a 70% tax on all income. As usual, Republicans know they'll lose the argument based on the facts, so they hide behind lies and fantasies instead.

I was very amused at Trump's football comment.  One sure way to get the South to turn against him is to piss them off about football.  It's their #2 opiate after Meth.
