This ad during the Puppy Bowl was kind a cute parody of commercials for a certain drug...

All I could think during that chunky milk commercial was that a marketing team came up with that and each person on that team has a salary noticeably greater than mine.

I mean, what the fark were they thinking?  "Let's show something utterly disgusting and then our product!"  I've got it - the camera slowly zooms in an a large pile of semi-solid dog shiat and when it finally fills the screen, show the text "AT&T Uverse."

There were only 7 commercials listed on there (unless the PSA one was supposed to cover a bunch) which is like one commercial break.

Didn't even mention the Bud Light/GoT mashup (tied for best) or the NFL wedding crashers one (also tied for best).

I wouldn't say they were the worst commercials, but I was rolling my eyes at the Verizon commercials praising first responders, given that Verizon throttled the "unlimited" data of the first responders to the Camp Fire.

when that commercial came on, everyone in the house all said "YUCK" at the same time.

It was the only thing we all agreed on.

/but I did find it funny

TFA called that one "ugly," and then 80% of their complaint about it was the cutting of benefits at the company, as if this had anything to do with the ad itself, and then mentioned that the newspaper industry is struggling, but somehow didn't put together that the two might be related.

THIS. FARK YOU, VERIZON. For that and so much more.

Most were meh to bad, but there were some good ones.  The Google translation one was great. Also liked the Bud Wind Power. And the WaPo. The long NFL one was entertaining, but hard to call it a good _ad_, since none of us knew wtf it was selling; conversely, the WalMart car ad surprised me with how many rights they paid for, but it made the point.

I suppose...if the philosophy is "any buzz is good buzz".  But I'm not in marketing.  Maybe if your product is still in that "brand recognition" phase it's good?  Maybe some marketing **PRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK** can weigh in?

I happen to like the Audi commercial where the guy is having the pleasurable experience of home, family, nice car and then his body suddenly jerks up in the air and you realize he's having a semi-conscious dream because someone is giving him the Heimlich Maneuver to dislodge a cashew. Has nothing to do with an Audi but I found the unexpected suddenness of it rather entertaining.

As someone who has used AT&T in the past, can I have the dog crap delivered instead?

Mint was thinking, 'Just spell my name right', and people are talking about it, so they won. Disclaimer, I'm a Mint customer as of last June, it's basically the T-Mobile network for $20.

Yanno, between this, thinking a boring clip of Wahol eating a burger was fantastic (yes, I get that it's very Warhol, but it still sucked), and only looking at like five ads total, I'd say this was a pretty garbage article.

Hmm, what's Slate's Ad Report Card got to say?

And, hell, I might buy a cheap TMobile phone just for the unlimited-txt and dad-this-isnt-google ads.

(Of course, being a Farker, I was expecting a really... unacceptable... last "search."  Perhaps, "is it safe to pack lasagna into your..." would have worked.)

SFSailor: he long NFL one was entertaining, but hard to call it a good _ad_, since none of us knew wtf it was selling;

It was more an announcement than a commercial - NFL 100 year anniversary year next year.

Plus, it didn't really cost anything, just move the money from the Marketing Budget to the Income from Super Bowl Ads line.

Yes, so much it looked like it was court ordered.
Surprised they did have the female ref on the field.

Agreed. But I kinda think they should have had him reaching for another handful of cashews as the last shot.

The 30 second version of Amazon's commercial with Harrison Ford and his dog with the Alexa collar was pretty cute. There was also a 60 second version with several other silly Alexa enabled products that didn't work so well for me because they rushed through it all too fast.
