Nightcrawler was a very good film that didn't get near the attention it deserved. I'm getting the impression that Velvet Buzzsaw won't be nearly as good, but I'm still planning to see it first chance I get.

I had zero expectations for this film and it was an underwhelming snoozer.  3/10

I saw it.  It's an odd film.  I enjoyed it, mostly because, having had to deal with the art world in the past, it actually is what the art world can be like at times.  Gyllenhaall was great in it, but I think a lot of people will be underwhelmed or disappointed by the ending.

I saw it on Netflix though, so for me it was a good two hours.  I'm not sure if I'd be willing to sit through it for $20 at a theater.

Seconded on Nightcrawler.

He played a disturbing character very well in that movie.

I think Nightcrawler got a ton mileage from Gyllenhaall's performance. With a less skilled actor in the role it probably wouldn't have been nearly as compelling.

I'm wondering how a bog-standard spec horror script got millions of dollars for such a cast.  That movie was pure Asylum-level dreck aside from the actors.

I mean, did Malkovich's character have a single, solitary effect on the plotline in any manner whatsoever?

I was wondering this as well? What purpose did he serve other than for an uneccesary intro for "Don don".

And wtf was his post credit scene?

I think he's just contractually obligated to be in Netflix movies now.

Actor extraordinaire!

He's one of my favorite actors.  The guy seems to throw himself head on into whatever role he's playing, and always does it very well; His facial expressions definitely are a factor as well.   Velvet buzzsaw kind of missed the mark for me, but I did like the weird concept and it wasn't awful;  I just won't be watching it again.

Zodiac on the other hand, is up there with Seven in terms of crime thrillers I enjoy.
