Not to speak up

"I'm not going to tell you I'm troubled, I'm going to tell you I'm angry," Craig told reporters at a news conference Thursday. "And I'm going to tell you why I'm angry -- I'm angry because this was a racially insensitive post."

So they arrested the person who took the video, and charged them with wiretapping, eavesdropping, and resisting arrest.

2019-02-02 09:38:15 AM
Ooo, cops posted the video.  That's quite a conundrum.

Maybe they can promote him.....

This won't be the cop we see rescuing puppies from traffic I presume.

Same guy who fired his side arm next to his GF's head during an argument? That guy?

This guy isn't going to get Detroit sued for millions someday when he snaps and kills someone. Nope. That's not at all foreseeable.

At least he didn't sexually assault her in the back of his cruiser.

I've had cops abandon us on the side of a freeway after busting our taxi driver in the middle of the night. Cops are assholes.

Even if somehow this latest incident gets hand waved by the copsuckers how do you even explain this:
"the officer was charged in 2008 with physically attacking his ex-girlfriend in Canton and firing a gun near her head. He reportedly took a plea deal on a misdemeanor, received probation and was allowed to stay on the force."

Thundrull: At least he didn't sexually assault her in the back of his cruiser.

He could have collared her for prostitution if he had.  I guess he's not looking to move up in the force.

He probably dates the woman who was kicked off that flight for fat shaming the folks around her.

kermit the forg: Whelp, not surprised.  Sickened and disappointed, yes, but not surprised.

Craig said his department launched an internal investigation that could result in anything from a written reprimand to suspension to termination. In the meantime, the 18-year veteran has been demoted from the rank of corporal and re-assigned from his precinct.

How is turning down an offer to be escorted home, forced to walk?

Doesn't change the fact that his video and racist commentary make him a complete shiatbag, but still - at least make the outrage accurate.

Craig also referred to the officer's "troubling history." WXYZ reports the officer was charged in 2008 with physically attacking his ex-girlfriend in Canton and firing a gun near her head. He reportedly took a plea deal on a misdemeanor, received probation and was allowed to stay on the force.

Cops routinely insult and provoke people.   Try the reverse.  Walk up to a cop and tell him exactly what's on your mind.  Something like, "You're a POS asshole, C-student, failed jock.", and see what happens.

Don't blame the cops. They had to get vack out there so they could protect and serve.

That is, they had to protect the last kruller over at Dunkin from their buddies in a rival precinct, and serve themselves a coffee to go with it.

Happened to me. Because there was the exacerbating fact that the expire did not exist in the state records. AAA (I learned later) never submitted the registration after giving me the sticker. As far as the cop was concerned I had a counterfeit tag.

Just kidding.

But really, on the spectrum of police assholish behavior, this is hardly even worth mentioning.  His prior crimes are more in line with "shiat that would get you killed or imprisoned but cops do on a fairly regularly basis with little to no consequences"

The problem is that IAB doesn't typically interact with the public on a daily basis, so those 1% good cops don't really count.

Escorted home? In the back seat of a cop car? With those cops? Not likely she'd ever arrive at home. That's how she was  "forced to walk"- it was a matter of survival

Just another Heartland Weirdass: Trumped up charges.

Regardless, the day a police officer uses a firearm in a crime (or commits any number of crimes for that matter, gun or not), should be the day they lose their badge.

And people wonder why the police aren't trusted by whole swaths of the population.

The officer should have been immediately suspended ( with out pay preferably)  while this is investigated by an outside agency.   n  if the Investigation upholds the claims , he should be fired on the spot  and barred from ever working as a police officer again.     In fact anyone fired from a job as a police officer for a legitimate cause or forced to resign for same should be barred from working as a police officer ever again.    Once a bad cop always a bad cop.

2019-02-02 12:14:38 PM
In 18 years he can only be demoted from corporal, not to. In 18 years that's his pinnacle rank. The world needs the police equivalent of ditch diggers too, Danny.

This is why cops, and government workers, should NOT be allowed to unionize. It protects the bad apples at the cost of the innocent public.

ALL lives matter. Cops are NOT special. It's a highly paid, highly benefitted voluntary job that gives them the power of life and death over the public. Public Lives Matter More!

Is the protection of "bad apples" worth the price if it provides more rights to thousands of workers who now can't just be fired on a whim?

I know right!?!?!

Just because a thug with a gun and who has all the power in the situation makes you walk home in dangerous weather and taunts you along the way there is no reason to be upset!!!!

amirite!?!?!?!?!?

The cop involved was demoted.  Considering that cops have killed unarmed civilians and kept their jobs, a demotion for posting a racially insensitive video is a bit more than a slap on the wrist.

2019-02-02 12:23:27 PM
Hmmm, there was "another officer" there who also made derogatory remarks. Not named, race not given, no discipline mentioned. I'm going to assume in the absence of further information it's because s/he is not white and therefore doesn't forward the objective of classifying all white cops as racist killers.
