Don't go sucking each other's dicks just yet, this could happen again in less than three weeks if Trump isn't done soiling his diapers and making everyone look at it.

I hope the point of people touting Speaker Pelosi's acumen and toughness is about making another showdown with her look as welcoming as a jagged reef to a boat captain. Now that the lesson has been learned and televised, it shouldn't need to be tried again.

This is me being hopeful.

If there's one hallmark of conservatism it is definitely trying something new when the old thing is broken

Schumer really isn't very good at this. He needs to pay closer attention to how Pelosi answers questions.
Who knows, maybe he can still learn.

Example: He should have led with the fact that the shutdown "began before Nancy Pelosi even became Speaker. It was just some strange move the President made, perhaps because he thought Speaker Pelosi was weak. But Speaker Pelosi turned out to be adamant about pursuing a fact based border policy. President Trump's fibbing about effective border policy does not work anymore. He is going to have to deal with the facts about the need to secure our ports of entry where the smuggling is concentrated. Mr. Trump will have to get advisors that will speak the truth to him and not feed him crazy fantasies. "

I said "hopeful" not rational!  Trump's pride is something he cares about deeply and this might be the type of lesson that even he can't ignore.  But then he'll have three weeks of campaign rallies to cheering, frothing fans to remind him of just how deeply scared the border states of Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Tennessee are of the looming horde of brown folks.  So he'll dig in his heels and blithely shut down the government again.

This is me being realistic.

Don't be so sure.  That may be the majority public opinion, but Trump tried to shift the blame for his self-proclaimed shutdown several times during the shutdown, which says quite clearly that he seriously regrets taking credit for it.  If it happens again, you can be damn sure he's going to Taz his way to blaming everything from the shutdown to this year's absence of Love Hearts on Pelosi/Schumer this time around.

MrBallou: If Trump wants another trip to the woodshed, I'm sure Speaker Pelosi will be glad to oblige, without even breaking a sweat.

Oh I have no doubt Pelosi would happily give him another solid drubbing if the government shuts down again, but that's kind of become secondary to the point now that we've had first-hand experience of what Trump's extended mushroom-waving contest does to the country.  This brief CR only means something in the long run if a more permanent resolution can be reached before the 14th, and that's going to depend entirely upon Trump not deciding that he just didn't wave his fungus around hard enough.

He might try but just as it was with the last shutdown he will not be successful. At the end the vast majority were blaming Trump. That's the great thing about these new Democrats who have developed a spine (well, this new Nancy Pelosi anyway, Chuck Schumer still hasn't figured it out completely). They don't just blindly accept whatever a Republican says.

Plus Trump has already indicated that he's ready and willing to shut it down again. Once again he has already taken the credit/blame for the shutdown that hasn't even happened yet. Public sentiment on who is to blame will not go the way Trump wants it to go no matter what he says about it.

Trump can't shut down anything without McConnell's help and after he got hung out to dry on this shutdown, I don't think the old turtle is eager for a second round.

If they do it in 3 weeks, groups like the flight attendant units, who were planning on going on strike over their safety (due to concerns of exhausted air traffic controllers) aren't gonna wait a full month to go on strike. The handful of republican that already broke with the president last round, will hopefully won't wait either (although you can't tell with these guys, since they have no principles). But at any rate, it is likely to be a repeat of the last shutdown, only it will be done with faster and Trump will look dumber

True.  He  gave the ultimatum in his cave speech.  It is either another Trump Shutdown or a scheduled emergency.  Neither of which will make Trump look good.

As a progressive I have no issues admitting that she is to the right of where I would like her to be. However, as the Speaker of the House I can think of nobody more qualified, able and willing to take Trump to the woodshed and give him the thrashing that he deserves, repeatedly, all day, every day. Her experience as a legislator has given her the knowledge of how the government works and she is using that knowledge to stymie Trump at every turn. She is the leader that the DNC and America needs to be in charge of the House at this time.

What will happen is it will be tied up in the courts, and the courts are likely to rule against him.

If they don't, then the next president can declare national emergencies on the following;

Climate change: Green New Deal

Health: Medicare for All
Income Inequality: raise minimum wage to $15

Exactly. Lots of people could see that it was McConnell holding up reopening government. Once McConnell held a vote it was clear that he didn't have enough control of the Senate to keep things going. If Trump wants to shut down the government again he has to convince the GOP that it will help them more than overriding him. He can't make that case.

I think you underestimate how few farks McConnell actually has to give about effective governing. He is also drowning in Russian money.

https://qz.com/1521847/major-gop-donor-len-blavatnik-had-business-ties-to-a-russian-official/

"Between 2009 and 2014, Blavatnik, a dual US-UK citizen, had been giving relatively small donations to both US political parties; his biggest spend was a total $273,600 in the 2014 election cycle.
However, from 2015 to late 2017, he donated at least $6.35 million to Republican party institutions, PACs, and candidates, May wrote in the Dallas Morning News, based on FEC data. He gave the money in a mixture of personal donations and contributions via Access Industries and AI Altep Holdings, which he also reportedly owns. (The two firms share the same CEO and Blavatnik's brother is listed as AI Altep's director, according to Open Corporates.)
Most of that cash went to Super PACs associated with Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell
