Look at me! Look at me! Attention! Attention! **dead**

This reminds me of when Vibram Five Fingers were all the rage.  I would see people with them on the easy trail somewhat frequently.  Then one day I encounter a 20-something woman picking her way down the upper Grays and Torreys trail (before the split...I went up Kelso Ridge).  She's wearing Five Fingers and they were not handling the jagged talus worth a damn - a lot was the fist size and smaller rocks that were tearing her feet up.  We leap-frogged for a about a mile (talking every now and then) when the trail finally improved and she took off.  I could tell she was in pain and I had this feeling that those shoes were either going in the closet or the trash.

This.  Also, she posed for instagram pictures in a bikini at the summit.  Odds she actually climbed without additional gear?  Pretty damn low.  Like Myspace Angle low.

I'll bite. You know those shoes that looked like feet, with individual toes? Those are Vibrams. Well, their bottom soles are thin. They were hiking on a trail with sharp and jagged fist sized to foot sized larger rocks. It really sucked in the Vibrams.

The 22 F temp that the weather channel is reporting for that park did not help much either.

As a michigander, 22f isn't very cold if you dress appropriately. I've fallen asleep by the fire and woken up warm the next morning (fire long gone out) around that temp.

Winter coat, shoes, socks, and a light blanket does the job.

It was definitely the bikini if she died of hypothermia here, assuming blood loss wasn't an issue too.

Could have easily contributed to the fall itself.

If you're wearing rugged clothing, you are more immune to scrapes while hugging jagged rock. Likely to be more focused on the climb and less on, "ouch, ug, that's sharp and cold against my thigh...ooooooooopsss."

A thermal blanket would still have been a huge help to keep her from freezing. I keep one in my day hike pack that turns into a tent in case something stupid happens out on the trail and I'm stuck overnight with a broken leg.

Probably not ideal for freezing temps, but it's better than nothing.

Because she's outdoorsy, takes bikini shots at summits, and, despite the blurry face, seems easy on the eyes?

As someone who has hiked from Zermatt to Saas Fee during a blizzard* wearing nothing but my climbing boots, a pair of shorts, and my silk underlayer shirt (first layer), I hope she only did this in the Summer. Also that modern polypro long underwear is a marvel.

*it was August and when we started it was 20C and getting warmer.

But with context this sounds like something I would not enjoy doing in my free time.

I'll continue... ."Grays and Torres" are two 14k foot mountain peaks in Colorado that people 'hike' up.  I call out the word hike because the routes on 14ers vary from walk ups on gentle trail to full on rock climbing.  Either way, the harsh winter at elevation combined with being above tree line results in the stone of the mountain tops getting broken into a loose aggregation of rocks called 'scree'.  Shiat tends to shift and roll as you walk on it.  Not nice to unprotected feet.

If she died of exposure I really hope it was because her stupid ass was out in a bikini in deadly weather
