Why would people know? My doctor group has a fancy website with every peice of information about me on it, isnt on there. I can never recall being told it after a visit or seeing it on paperwork.

I think the only reason I know is due to an 8th grade science experiment where we did antigen tests, something that would get a hazmat tent put around a school today...

Mines Type F.

/ used to be Dextron II but I had a heart transplant.

I even know my genotype and the genotypes of my whole family.

Dad was type O, mom was type A, brother is O, I'm A. That's a very easy Punnett square.

I tested O in high school, but do you really want to trust the results of a 15 year old's first blood typing experiment?

they saw i was a little depressed so they told me to be positive

My wife is A- and I'm O+, it was important to know our blood types when she got pregnant. Both the kids are O+, things can go very wrong without the shots.

A pos.  Not all that rare, but the vampires at the blood center call me as soon as I'm eligible.  I'm also CMV-, which might explain it.

You find out when you donate blood.  A+

According to my military issued dog-tags, I'm AB+.  According to my Red Cross blood donation card, I'm AB-.
I'm pretty sure I'm AB, but my electrical charge is in doubt.

Mine was on my dog tags (O+ if anyone really cares all that much...), but I have no idea about MrsRT or any of the subcalibers.

I don't know. My parents knew at some point but forgot, and I haven't been allowed to donate blood, so not much opportunity to find out.

2019-01-19 09:31:23 AM
O Negative, CMV Negative (or as the woman at the blood bank terms it... the baby blood).    It's not possible to accurately type newborns blood so they need this.

It's a sort of basic scientific literacy. It's possibly that someone is profoundly incurious about very simple basic facts of existence. I guess there are excuses for that, if you dig deep. But for people who exhibit even mild curiosity about the world and themselves, knowing your own blood type is right up there as a basic bit of knowledge. Surely, billions will excuse their own ignorance and lack of even basic curiosity. Thus Trump.

dodecahedron: O-, and I had to block the blood bank phone number for calling me every five minutes.

I donated blood to the local cancer hospital once.
It is when I discovered I really don't like having a needle in my arm with my blood leaking out.
Since I am also O-, they really want my blood.
Sorry, unless you are a relative that I really like, I am not putting myself through that.

If you're ever in a position where it matters, the people who care aren't going to take your word for it and will instead use a machine that tells them instantly.

Headline gave me a chuckle, as does this thread.  I would consider donating to it but not sure if I can bank on something witty.  Perhaps choosing to use a subtle vein is best.

Dunno, I don't think it's ever been tested.  I found documentation from when I was born, and it listed my mum's blood type, but not mine.  My grade 12 biology class did a bloody typing lab.  I couldn't muster the courage to stab my fingertip with the lancet.  Everyone else got O-.  I strongly suspect the coagluating agents were old and no longer functional, which might also explain the statistically improbable profusion of Os in this thread.

/I also failed the bloody typing section on the chapter test, because I couldn't tell which of her scrawls were supposed to be coagulated blood and which weren't.

I grew up being told I was O+ but when I went into the AF they informed me that I was A+ whether I liked it or not.

Type O+.  The most common. I've already had three blood transfusions.

I had to have two rhogam shots after birth. The nurse made the comment, "wow I don't usually have to give two. Lucky me.

Do it, just give them a phony phone number or they will harass the hell out of you.

It is a wonderful thing to give blood.

Rh factor. The mother gets a shot with the first baby to prevent this:
