Ah, there's your problem. Louis did not realize that comedy includes humor.

I mean, it was increasingly obvious he was missing something really obvious and now we know what it is.

Baby steps forward.

Liking an audience when you jerk off isn't the issue. If that's your thing man, own it. Nothing wrong with being a little exhibitionist with your tallywhacker time. The issue is consent, and maybe informing folks that you want to be the star in your own sex show, and maybe even asking them if they want to be in the live studio audience...

Why can't he find a way forward that works? I mean works for #metoo. I thought he was a smart guy. I thought he was a good explainer. At this point I just want him to go away forever.

Edgelord C.K. strikes again. Even if I liked him enough to check out any new material, you can bet your ass I'd never set foot near one of his live sets. Creeps, MRAs, incels, and Trump supporters are going to pack the audience from here on out.

He's been doing stand up for decades, sold comedy albums and show tickets direct to fans since 2001, wrote, acted and directed a bunch of movies and TV shows, including one with his name on it for five years and was nominated (and won) a shiatton of Emmys and other awards during his career?

Just because Louis C.K. lacks all self-awareness about why his creepy propensity for jerking it in front of a captive audience is a problem, doesn't make that tweet any less farking stupid. Someone passive-aggressively demanding ever more obscure sets of pronouns to be used for them is not even remotely the same thing as someone being killed for their gender identity.

The problem is that it's just not that black and white of an issue. There's a power dynamic at play, one that may have influenced the women's reaction. It's kind of complicated from both sides. However Louie hasn't done himself any favors with this "comeback."

Though i do have to take umbrage with the tone of the article. You could quickly tell the feeling of the author and how she was shaping things, especially with her ridiculous use of "mansplaining."

The issue at hand is that these were people who likely felt they had to say yes, given they were up and coming comics. The narrative has been changed to him forcing people to watch, which obviously makes him look much worse.

I think there may have also been one victim who claimed that as well, though I'm honestly unsure.

I don't know who John Rogers is, but he is right on the money in that thread.

So much of what we have inherited as social "norms" and virtues are just nonsense people agreed to for "reasons". Hand me down assumptions  Echoes of our more barbarous past. The echoes will still persist, but I'm glad younger generations are continuing the work of exposing them as nonsense. Baby steps for humanity.

Previous generations have done it too, that's why race mixing is no longer taboo for example, but our imaginations are limited and as we get older we tend to narrow our view of the future as we cling on to the past as mortality creeps up on us. So social-ethical advancement comes in fits and spurts. I hope I live long enough to see the Millenials do the good they can and then get older and find out where their limit is too, and laugh as the next generation ignores them to move past them and tear asunder yet more hollow social assumptions.

The argument is that because of his industry influence, any relationship between him and an up-and-coming comic is similar to a relationship between a boss and a subordinate: At best, it's fraught; and at best his actions were reckless. The only question is whether he hurt people intentionally or unintentionally, which is something we can't know.

I didn't exactly give the matter deep contemplation but I'd tend towards believing the unintentional / reckless side. That might just be what I want to believe.

He said something along the lines of 'You want people to forget about you jerking off?  Make jokes about a bunch of kids that got shot.'

Which is, honestly, not a bad joke.  Well, maybe a bad time to make jokes, but not a bad joke.

Hard to believe this has to be explained, on Fark of all places. Are we suddenly giving C.K. the "unperson" treatment, pretending like he wasn't a comedy idol up until recently? No, sorry, it doesn't work that way. The person you thought was brilliant turned out to be a creep, you have to work through that. You don't get to be like "Louis C.K.? I'm not familiar with his work."

2019-01-18 12:15:37 AM
I see Louis has decided to play to the dirtbag crowd now that respectable society will have nothing to do with him. I do find it amusing that he is upset at kids these days for not rebelling because they aren't doing the same things he did when he was younger, it's almost as if every generation has their own way of rebelling and pissing off the older generation.

Anyway fark him, maybe if he had admitted he was in the wrong I could accept it but not wanting to be alone when you orgasm is pretty normal but most of us get over it not make women sit and watch.

So they said 'yes', but really didn't want to, but felt obligated because of who he is. Now they're coming out saying how this happened, and Louis used his position so he get get his rocks off.

I just don't see how Louis can come out of this smelling like a rose. Seems to me he's some creepy scumbag that liked to disgust women that he had power (or influence) over.

His new sets have been possibly the funniest of his career and the audiences laughed themselves silly.
