(24/7 Wall Street)   In 2018, 11 million iPhone owners opted for a $29 battery replacement rather than a $1000 new iPhone XS, 10x more than Apple expected. This is bad news... for Android   (247wallst.com) divider line

A thousand dollars for a motherfarking phone. What the hell.

Got 2-3 days use from a full charge on my 4s, and my current SE is the same.  But I have a weird usage pattern and turn off just about anything I can.

I WISH it was ONLY $1,000.00 for a high end phone.
Guess I'll have to wait another 4 years till this is in the bargain barrel.

As opposed to those pesky $200 pocket sized computers that can make phone calls.

My phone is dying and I don't know how much time it has left on this earth.  If someone would sell me a phone with a replaceable battery, SD card slot, headphone jack, and good camera, I'd buy it right now.  I'd even switch to a Windows phone if I could get those features.

The only thing I hate buying more than phones is cars.

Twenty years ago if someone told me that a nice, but not extreme, new SUV might be $70,000, I'd have laughed.  Now, they are.  Not all of them, but normal-ish ones like Tahoes and Suburbans.

Of course, 6 years ago, I didn't expect to be paying $1300 per month for high deductible health insurance for my two healthy sons and healthy me.  But I am.

I have a 6s, I took the $29 before it expired last year.  Why the hell does that make me a sucker?  You do realize that a modern, high-end smartphone costs $1000 whether I buy it from Apple or from Samsung/LG/Google, right?  Last I checked, $29 was a lot less than $1000 for a couple more years of usage.

How do you have 15 Smarts for this? Brainless toads. I can buy a decent laptop that can do actual computer-y things for less than half that cost. I can buy a pocket computer than can make phone calls for a tenth of that. This is pure idiocy.

Lol, a phone is not a motherfarking computer the way a laptop or desktop is a computer. It doesn't do the same thing. Let me know when you can run a goddamn spreadsheet for finances or open up multiple programs without blowing up your goddamn phone. Plus you can get a good phone that can do the same goddamn shiat for a fifth of the cost. Good God are you people completely worthless.

I have an LG K20+. It has all those things. Micro USB plug, too. Plus fingerprint unlocking that works really well.

I think mine was $250 at T-Mobile, so about $10 a month.

I already have toilet literature.  And I turn all devices off before bed. I'm making a conscious effort to leave it in the car when I'm able to do so.  The problem with the things is they're so damn addicting.  I was a nervous wreck the first time I decided to leave my phone in the car when I went out.  Now it's just so nice to get away from whenever I'm able.  They are incredibly capable and useful devices for getting business done however.

I refuse to enter the argument about which phone is better.

My view is that it really IS just a matter of opinion, and that's that.

Now...  How does this work out as bad for Android?  The only thing I can think is that many people who would opt to not spend $1000 on a new phone, might decide to switch.  And now with the $29 option they don't have to...  I can see that I suppose.

But seriously...  People who love their iPhones love their iPhones.  It has not been a normal habit for them to change teams for any reason, really.

They aren't smarting it because it's a good thing, they are smarting it because phones these days are computers that can also call people.

Key words being "I". Why are denigrating others because you wouldn't purchase something? Does it make you feel better about yourself to sit on the internet and post how superior you are based on your personal views of electronic gadgetry?

People buy what they want, for whatever reason they want and that's their prerogative, not yours.

The lightning port went on my wife's iPhone. The "genius" at the apple stireApple store told us "it could not be repaired and we had to buy a new phone". I basically told the guy to f off and that was the most absurd thing I ever heard. I walked to a kiosk a hundred feet down the mall and the guy fixed it for 30 bucks. He let me watch him do it. Now I k ow how to do the repair myself, and can get the part for like 7 bucks. I walked back into the Apple store after the repair and showed the guy. I vowed to never buy an Apple product again after that.

There are a lot of people who don't want to get rid of their 6s or earlier because the later ones are the ones that ditched the headphone jack, and if they still work and they could get a battery replacement for those it is zero percent surprising that people chose to do that.

Wife and I got Note9s for 500 a piece right when they came out (happened to coincide when we were looking for new phones/plans), I don't have much of an issue locking in for two years when they give you some time to make sure the network is OK and you can back out in that early span with no penalty. Feel like you have to be nuts to actually pay full freight for any of these phones.
