If I truly "acted my age" at 14 I would have been dry humping everyone's leg until they had to take me to the vet and have me put down.

"I am outraged at how inappropriate her attire is", say some adults who were actively looking thru the social media account(s) of a 14 year old they are unrelated to.

14 is like 7th grade.  I don't think it typical that a young lady that age wears a form fitting dress and heels.   I wouldn't have really noticed it, personally, as people in the entertainment biz are on a different sliding scale of how they present themselves, but putting it into context verses others her age, this outfit is atypical.

I don't think 'inappropriate' is the right word...  She's simply trying to look nice per the industry standard.  Its not sexual in her mind, which is the important thing.    I do think its inappropriate, grown men tweeting at her, telling her what to do.

A lot of those responses sound like they're from men who remember what they were like when they were fourteen, and women who don't remember what they were like when they were fourteen.

Either way, give Millie a break. Instagramming your first bodycon dress is one of those milestones of adolescence, like pimples, learning to drive, or getting your first American Express card.

I'm willing to bet a depressing amount of it is "Too old!" in action. She's starting to develop a woman's body and her creepy fans are pissed they aren't attracted to her anymore.

No it's at minimum 8th grade. As for dressing like that, no they don't, not every day but if they are on a date or at a dance a lot of them do and they did back when I was a kid too.

When my daughter was around that age, in middle school, her class went on an overnight field trip to a theatre festival in a college town a few hours away, and I and a number of other parents were enlisted to go along as chaperones. The kids were encouraged to wear "nice" outfits for the evening theatre performances, and many of them did--the sort of thing they might wear for a family dinner at a nice restaurant. But a substantial number of the girls (none of the ones whose parents were there as chaperones, not surprisingly) interpreted that as a license to dress in ways that made the outfit that's the subject of TFA look like a goddamn burkha in comparison. We're talking about numerous 13 and 14-year-old girls dressed like they were a ho on their way to a Miami Beach nightclub, or the next girl on the pole at the local strip club (super-high CFM heels, skintight clothing including skirts so short they barely covered their butts and tops showing lots of cleavage and sideboob).  It was pretty shocking, and all of the parent-chaperones (and the teacher) were pretty taken aback by it.  The college boys in the town were leering at them wherever they went, which I guess was understandable given that looked a whole lot more like college-age ho-bags desperately looking for a hook-up than middle-school girls (even though, dude, they're 13).  Now that was "inappropriate" attire, though given the number of girls wearing it, I guess it wasn't "atypical," at least in that crowd.

So yeah, I didn't think the outfit in question here should really raise an eyebrow, even though it really isn't age-appropriate.

Its from her neck almost down to her ankles. I'm not sure what's not "age appropriate" about it, unless we suddenly have timewarped back to 1902.

It's a formal dress. She looks more comfortable in it than most people her age would, unsurprisingly given her life for the past couple years.

She looks lovely and classy. I don't know wtf people are complaining about.

Why do any of these people think their opinion matters? In most instances telling 14 year olds what to do and how to dress is about as productive as nailing jello to a tree.

So once again a kid does something harmless on Instagram and every "adult" that follows her thinks everyone needs to know their shiatty opinion about it, without the slightest hint of irony that they've sexualized her more than that dress ever did.

If you're a full grown adult following the twatter or instagram feed of a 14 year old actress and you aren't a casting director, her agent or otherwise involved in showbiz, the problem is you, you sick farks.

You know what I find weird?

If you made a Venn overlay of the set [people who complain people about sexualizing teenage girls] and the set [people who complain about adult female cartoon/comic characters having breasts/curves] the resulting diagram would be an almost perfect circle.  If you then overlaid the set [people who believe media images inform beauty standards], you would still have an almost perfect circle.

Thus the people who complain about the sexualization of teenage girls are the same people who are applauding the reimagining of traditional voluptuous and clearly adult female characters into characters with bodies more typical of...teenage girls.  Despite knowing that this will in turn inform beauty standards, and thus lead to the further sexualization of teenage girls bodies.

/check out the redesigns of Spider-Woman and She-Ra if you're not sure what I'm talking about
//both went from being clearly adult women to having the bodies of teen/pre-teen girls

2019-01-15 04:07:03 PM
Also, I have no opinions on Millie Bobby Brown except that they should cast her as a young Leia in a Leia prequel film before she gets much older.  Sadly that likely won't happen due to the poor performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

/Also, I finally saw Solo on Netflix, and thought it was the best space opera I'd seen in years
//Absolutely loved it.  Even the bit where Solo gets his name played well in context.

I think it's just not "age appropriate" in the sense that it looks like it was designed for Helen Mirren.

Skin tight ripped acid wash Jordache Jeans, a crop top nearly showing underboob, lacy socks with the frilly thing on them, heels, a jean jacket and huge hair. The late 80s early 90s had some screwball fashions.
