I am proud to say I don't know who a single one of these people are...

such feeling and understanding in those little faces. it's noble stuff, for sure. maybe someone can ask them to do it again, but with name badges on?

/or stickers if they're worried about their clothing

fark_the_herald_angel_sings: I am proud to say I don't know who a single one of these people are...

Only name I recognized was Alyson Stoner cause I think she was on some Disney show my oldest watched like 10 years ago.  Couldn't pick her out of the video though.

2019-01-10 11:57:50 AM
Who the hell are any of these people?

2019-01-10 11:58:16 AM
The original was made when I was 10-11. I remember watching the video over and over. We watched the "making of" over and over. We got so inspired to try to be better. That was so powerful. We need a bit more of that in the world, right now. Something to remind us that we can and should be better, in some small way.

2019-01-10 11:58:17 AM
I made 15 seconds...who? Why is one of them wearing a cellophane anorak? Is that cool now?

2019-01-10 11:58:32 AM
The real star of that thing was the Autotune engineer.

Ewww, "youtube stars."

Fails without the guy who did Chocolate Rain.

One of them was so obvious, I thought that maybe that was his YouTube schtick - using his voice to mimic autotuning.

That's a whole lotta white kids.

A clusterf*cked cavalcade of cloyingly cutesy cacophony.

for their next trick...lets see them try are redo Hands Across America.

We Are the World was terrible to begin with. Why would they re-record it?

Oh, YouTube "stars." I see.

yesterday, my g/f's 12 year old was randomly singing this song.  I had no idea where she heard it, but this all makes sense.

/I've no idea who these people are
//I'm sure she does, though
//I've only known her since she was ten, in my defense.

2019-01-10 12:24:18 PM
That's pretty awful, but ego?

The original is not one of humanity's great works, so its not like they are defiling something sacred.

2019-01-10 12:24:22 PM
Such hubris, the original had a collection of stars rarely, if ever, seen.
People such as:

Michael Jackson
Bob Dylan
Ray Charles
Stevie Wonder
Paul Simon
Smokey Robinson
Willie Nelson
Quincy Jones
Tina Turner
Waylon Jennings
Bruce Springsteen
Diana Ross
Harry Belafonte
Billy Joel
Lionel Ritchie
& more!

I couldn't stand the original version (and the similar songs from Canadian and UK artists). It hasn't gotten any better.

I'm not sure you understand how much some of these people make and how many people watch them on a weekly (if not daily) basis.

Dan Ackroyd was in this one, too.

*shrug* It was this Midwestern kid's first introduction to the concept of a global society. Was it a panacea? Nope. But it definitely helped set me on my path. I don't knock how people learn they need to be better towards one another... it's just great that they do.

ymmv

It is pretty weird. Mostly I just don't care, if people enjoy watching that stuff, cool. One drawback though, is that with far too many of these musicians, it's obvious that they don't play with other musicians, or spend much time in front of a live audience, both of which are crucial to musical development. That, and the way they all just do covers, most of which aren't nearly as good as the originals. Just note for note recitals, instead of doing anything to make it their own. Boring.

I didn't recognize any of them, but some of their voices did not mesh together at all.   Overall, it was poorly done I think.  Yes, I'm fun at parties.

Ok, that's those people. This really is just a bunch of nobodies who think they're celebrities because they talk bollocks about bollcks into a PC camera and think they're creating entertainment.

I've got a youtube channel. I've got over 200 subscribers. No-one ever asked me to sing

Did most of the proceeds go to a warlord who used it to buy weapons like Band Aid and Live Aid did?

And yet, nobody knows or cares who any of them are.

Being a YouTube "star" is like being a self-published author. Without the validation of the industry, you're just a DIYer. You might get clicks, you might make money, but you're not a celebrity in the true sense.
I watch Russian dashcam videos by the dozens. Sometimes while I'm doing other things. YouTube views are not exactly an accurate gauge of talent.
