Trump agreed to sign a clean CR.
Senate passed a clean CR.
Ryan's House passed a dirty AF CR because Trump said he would no longer sign the clean CR.
Pelosi's House passes the clean CR that the Senate passed.

Trump and McConnell are the ones who are holding things up because they changed their minds.  You don't give in to someone who cannot be trusted to stand by a previously made bargain.

So no, it's not Pelosi and Schumer's fault at all.

Precisely. It's a fact check, not a morality check, or a sanity check.
The primary fact is that the impass is because both sides refuse to either capitulate or move to a middle position. There are additional facts that come into play, like an initial agreement that was reneged.

Regardless, it is wrong to treat this as BSAB because it isn't about "bad". It's about facts and facts are morality neutral. One could complain that a deeper dive into the facts is necessary but then there's a question of how deep a dive, and how complete, which particular predicates are emphasized.

A. We shouldn't be putting any money towards a wall. The wall is a dumb idea.

2. We've tried negotiating with Trump; we ended his first shut down with a promise to revisit the DACA issue, and when his second shutdown came around he reneged. He turned down $25 billion because he couldn't compromise. And now here we are on his third shut down, where he's demanding $5 billion in exchange for nothing.

III. Republicans agreed on this funding bill until Trump shot it down.

Trump is the odd man out here! There's no other way to cut it. And I stated before, this is his third shut down stemming from his obstinance. By now, it should be clear that this is a pattern.

The other is holding a gun to the Federal government's head demanding 5 billion dollars.

Nope, it is an opinion of the writer at AP masquerading as a fact. Blame is a subjective thing, and to say that factually it is shared is opinion and has no place in a 'fact check'

2019-01-09 03:18:18 AM
They could pass a clean CR 100-0 in the Senate if they simply held a vote on it. And that would be veto-proof.

Which means it's actually more of McConnell's shutdown than Trump's.

ye gods they are f*cking DESPERATE to find some way to blame the Democrats for this.  I think its in the DNA of our news organizations to always and forever blame everything everywhere on the Democrats.

I mean we literally have Trump on tape SAYING that he was fully and totally responsible for this shutdown.  not once, multiple times.  "its on me, its MY fault, I will take the blame, me, Donald Trump' and still - STILL - the press can't help themselves.  they have to blame the Democrats as well.

By that logic both sides are equally to blame in hostage negotiations at an impasse too. It's all the more bizarre that you think this is somehow a higher level of neutrality when you admit there had been deal which the Republicans reneged on. Since it's apparently unclear to you and your fellow Trumpers what that means, allow me spell it out:

That deal WAS THE FARKING COMPROMISE!

AP: US shares blame for 911 for not submitting to terrorist demands.

2019-01-09 03:33:59 AM
The one real thing that's changed is that Trump has concretely said that the wall must be built out of steel (rather than concrete). That removes a lot of renegotiation of what could possibly be meant by a 'wall'.

There was plenty of time before today to have hammered out a deal where both sides got to save face. Stroke Trump's ego a little and get him to bend on what he meant. But we are past that now. It's just a game of chicken.

If this shutdown is to end those that voted for him are going to have to vote to oust him.

The hard part is the Dems actually care about the people so they tend to cave, which ends up being a band aid for the temporary and we need to buckle down and stop this shiat.

this time, I don't think the Democrats are going to give in...I mean, they really can't.  not if they want to stay in power.  Trump literally said this was ON HIM.  we've got that on tape, we all saw it live.

I think the news organizations are getting desperate.  the corporate owners want this to end, so they're going to play their own games with information and political spin.  that's my guess why we're seeing this crap.

and it'll only get worse.

This is what "objective reporting" has become though.  You don't dare appear to be taking a side, so even if one "side" is complete bullshiat you cover it as fact for fear of offending that team.  Also it is a fact that Republicans are claiming these things.

I don't think the Dems *can* cave on this one.  they know if they do, they will NEVER be able to restrain trump.  this is as much their last stand as it is for Donny.  what's more the Dems understand what's really at stake here, even if Trump doesn't.
