In spite of this, every time a freshman Democrat representative engages in a bit of hyperbole, Fox News will go to DefCon One with dire predictions for the state of the union alleging that Pelosi, Schumer and Crooked Hillary are behind it.

the reality is, they can't jump the gun. If there is evidence of criminal wrongdoing, and it is to such an extent that you couldn't possibly excuse it, you will get impeachment. They're trying to tamp down on the overeager freshmen to keep them from backing them into a corner like Newt was. When the evidence is public, they will impeach and the Senate will convict. It'll be like Nixon in that the evidence will be so overwhelming that the Senate GOP couldn't possibly bring themselves to keep defending Trump (some will)

To be pendantic, impeachment is certainly within the realm of possibility.  Removal is not.  And impeachment without removal is suicide.

Impeachment is not a pipe dream, conviction might be. Wait until you're able to release the evidence of crimes by this president, then make the republicans take a stand for or against it.

Pelosi won't move on it unless and until she has the Senate conviction in her back pocket*. Everything else is political theater, and there's more important shiat to do in the meantime.

*Assuming her clothing has pockets, which I concede is dubious.

Talking about it makes Trump panic.

So keep talking.

Let's just wait for the Mueller report and see what the evidence supports.

I'll wait until Mueller publishes his report.

The Senate won't convict. This reality makes impeachment an empty political theatric that would be spun as personal and partisan.

The better move is to bring good legislation to the House floor that can be used to not only cock-slap Trump in 2020, but to stick a dick in the eye of Republican Senators as well.

2019-01-07 3:07:27 PM
We should wait and see until we actually do something.

We should also keep talking about impeaching him and making sure the parade of illegal, corrupt shiat that is his administration gets un-normalized.

We wouldn't want to upset anyone.

2019-01-07 3:08:53 PM
Impeachment without conviction would empower Trump in ways no one wants.

Be patient. Let the investigations find the truth. When Trump becomes too much for the Senate to ignore, that's when you impeach.

2019-01-07 3:09:12 PM
That's no surprise, they have to say this. Why would anyone expect otherwise? The less they say about it, the less Trump has to bloviate about it, which only makes him more anxiety-ridden and paranoid in the "WHY IS IT SO QUIET" way.

Much as I want the giant shiatstain out of office asap, unless something quite substantial drops, I still feel waiting for Mueller's report before officially doing anything is the right way to go.

Yep. Until the Republicans are willing to put country before part the best the Dems can do is to publicize all of Trump's crimes with the hopes that more independents and "moderate Republicans" will put pressure on the Republicans to do the right thing.

Basically this.

Because he should be impeached I want them to do this RIGHT. Use the new power they have to make sure investigations aren't quashed, and that the evidence of his crimes is laid bare for all the world to see in absolutely unambiguous terms.

THEN impeach the motherfarker. I want it done, but I want it done right, because is it isn't botched and half-cocked then all indications are it will be a lot more than Trump going down. A lot of foreign intelligence operations are going to get rooted out, and a lot of other compromised political figures are going to go down too.

Dig Trump and the corruption out by the roots.

"At the end of the day, we need to be able to tell the American people exactly what took place in the 2016 election..."

I believe there are entire states where a verifiable recount of every ballot is impossible. So you won't be able to tell the American people EXACTLY what happened.

We do know the Russians hacked up and down and all across the election process, including vendors responsible for installing and maintaining individual voting machines. It would be foolish to agree that the Russians spent all those years and all that money just to stop short of changing individual votes or vote tallies.

We as a nation can agree to agree that Russia didn't change actual votes and vote tabulations, but saying it doesn't make it so.

Why would he say anything?

Mueller investigation, and they have entire power of investigations and subpoenas in the House, including the ability to charge people with lying to Congress.

On top of everything else going on, just grind Trump to a fine dust.

Also, keep in mind how many intelligence committees are now run by Democrats. Expect soon to see a release of transcripts, a reopening of investigations, subpoenas to organizations for records, and recalls of numerous witnesses to testify before them.

An impeachment without conviction means Trump gets re-elected in 2020. An impeachment with a conviction means whoever the Republicans run in 2020 wins. Do not underestimate the power of "THE DEMOCRATS ABUSED THE SYSTEM TO TAKE DOWN/ATTEMPT TO TAKE DOWN THE PRESIDENT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO DESTROY AMERICA!!!!!" in getting R's to the voting booth.

Use the House majority to stymie Trump as much as possible, as well as bring more of his criminal activity to light and if he doesn't ragequit by 2020, he loses and ends up open to criminal prosecution once he's a civilian again. Yes, it will suck. Yes, people will get hurt. But ffs, we can't fark this up or we're screwed for a lot longer than the next two years.

They're basically saying that they aren't putting the cart before the horse. When Muller or the House's investigations find something, then it's worth talking about. Even then, it may not pass the senate. At that point, the House needs to decide if it will go ahead and do it just so that the GOP is on record opposing a legitimate impeachment. But until there's some pretty solid stuff, the House should be into things like opening up the government and issuing subpoenas to investigate the republicans.

Last time, the Dems were in charge they decided not to investigate these asshats for lying about Iraq and war crimes so they could instead govern, the republican garbage repaid the gesture with unending Benghazi investigations. As bad as this is for our immediate prospects of governance, the Dems need to repay the GOP with the same coin. Russian collusion and everything else these aholes do should be investigated by congressional panel whenever possible for as long as it can possible be done.

2019-01-07 3:14:34 PM
Keep talking about it in the context of his crimes. Prove those crimes, impeach, then let the republican senate explain why those felonies do not rise to the level of impeachment.

Better to just frustrate and neuter Trump and let him continue to drag the entire GOP down with him.

Get control of the three branches of government in 2020 and maybe, just maybe, we can fix the country, world and planet that President Mushroom Dick and his enablers are breaking.

But hey, if Mueller's report is a bombshell then all bets are off.
