Seguin and Ben aren't bad, their production is just down.  That happens.  They're still averaging just under a point per game and are on pace for 25 goal, 70+ point seasons.  Is Dallas defense still a Keystone Cops routine? Because cleaning that up can do wonders for your skill players.

I said it when it happened and I'll say it again. There is no way either one of them was worth the money or contracts they got.

Neither one of them is even close to being in the league of Ovechkin, Toews, Kane, Malkin, Subban and so on.

Let's look at them on the leader boards

Oh wait, we can't, they aren't there.

Let's go to player stats then

Hahahaha.
Dallas got played. Chances of either one of them becoming worth what they are paid is very slim. Players of this caliber don't usually come back and become better, they stay the same or get worse. Both of them will most certainly get their asses in gear but I wouldn't expect much more from them beyond this season. Dallas had very high aspirations and lofty dreams and just realized they forgot to take off the rose colored glasses.

Seguin is already toast, he said on camera that he's getting old. THAT is a debilitating poison to the mind at age 26 IMO. He just stated he has nothing more to give as he's already peaked. He had a good first year after the Bruins unloaded him then 4 years of decline. Management spoke to him, he had a good season and is flopping again.

Benn.. well.. Benn was the best the Stars had.. He hasn't spent enough time under well seasoned leaders to know how to be a good Captain. He spent 3 years under Morrow and that's it. Again, Dallas had the rose colored glasses on. Oh yeah, Benn's response to the CEO, 'I don't play for you'. Lol, reeeaaally bad choice of words, he owns your ass Jamie.

The Stars are going to have an 80% off Clearance Sale for both of them in the next few years if they are lucky.

Something about the Dallas Stars makes me think they might rival the mid/late 00's Flyers, in terms of off ice shenanigans. Benn comes off like the someone who starts every morning by double-fisting two beers and crushing the empty cans on his forehead, and knowing Seguin's time in Boston, he very well could still be dropping off college-aged girls at Planned Parenthood on the way to practice every morning. Since those two are the "leaders" of this club, every time I see a lopsided loss of theirs on the road, I can only assume it's probably because they played coming off an all-night cocaine bender.

If they can move those contracts. They're not Seabrook level onerous, but you need a partner with a lot of wiggle room, or a corresponding bad contract.

Sunby here. Having seen seen every Stars game so far this year, my take on Lites's shenanigans is, "You're not wrong...you're just an asshole."

Calling in the media to publicly air internal grievances like that is unprofessional no matter how you slice it. And regardless of the complaints against the character and work ethic of Benn and Seguin, a good deal of the blame needs to fall on the front office for their shiatty drafting/development and nonsensical free agent signings.

This team is dying for secondary scoring, and we could've had Barzal, Larkin, and DeBrincat just by following the consensus at the time on those respective prospect rankings.

The Stars have made the playoffs twice in the last ten years. They're bad because they're run bad.

Shouldn't we be laughing at the front office that handed out these contracts rather than the players, though?

Benn and Seguin are getting paid. Hard to blame them. Dallas front office just sucks.

I was blaming the front office and gave my reasons why. It's entirely their fault and they don't want egg on their face when the shiat hits the fan.
IMO this is a good executive strategy by the CEO. Start a little commotion now and by the time they unload them the fan base will already have reasoned with it; "Well, they were warned a couple years ago"  "Well there is a history.." and so on.
Fan base isn't mad at the franchise, Jamie and Tyler are gone, fans keeps shelling out the $$ and put all their hopes in the seasoned guys acquired in the trades. Oh look, a nice little spike in new merchandise sales too!

Part of running the team bad was hitching the franchise's wagon to two declining third tier "superstars."

Their production is WAY down.  They are on their third or fourth season of decline as well.

And the Stars have had a lot of injuries of defense, but they have something like the third fewest goals allowed.  Defense isn't the problem.  Offense is.

And boy, the offense sucks.  As much as Benn and Seguin have been bad, the guys playing on their three fourth lines are giving them nothing.  They gave Nichushkin $3 million to come back to the NHL, and he has zero goals.  Zero.  It's crazy how bad their forward group is.
