(Fark)   There I was, thinking about cooking dinner. My cats were eager for their food out of a can, and it struck me: I never cook for my cats. Am I strange? Should I whip them up a nice tuna salad, or just go with Fancy Feast because they won't complain?   (fark.com) divider line

I tried sharing some of my fried chicken hearts one time, but they weren't really interested.
Now my plain cooked chicken breast, that was always a winner, winner chicken dinner.

I've learned that any attempt to make my cats happy fails miserably.  Their joy is found in my disappointment.

Buy some mice from a pet store and set them loose in your house.  Your cats will love you.

I've done I for my dogs (all the venison scraps, brown rice and/or barley, carrots, peas, etc.   They loved it, but then they loved anything I dropped on the floor.

My previous cats all went bonkers for seafood.   One used to tear into our boots and clothes after a fishing trip, especially shell fish.  I'd make a mash up of left overs for them and they liked that.

My current guy is not interested in any people food.  Seafood, meat, etc.   Once in a blue moon he'll eat one or two little pieces of chicken.   He likes crackers, though.   I think he's of the "if I haven't killed it myself, I don't want to eat it" school of previously feral cats..   His current dry food, he looks at me like I'm trying to feed him broccoli.

Decorate their food with parsley and put it on a few leaves of lettuce. Cats are real Foodies at heart and presentation is everything. Put all the food in the dog's dish. This is the best possible presentation for cats.

The very reason I have dogs.

Cat owners are like longtime abused spouses who actually think it's their fault.  I want to start a hotline, but they wouldn't call

It doesn't occur to me to cook separate things for them, I just always offer them a bite of whatever I have. Sometimes they like it, sometimes not.
I eat a lot of tunafish and always give them the drain-oil. That and catnip is all it takes to convince them I'm some kind of fish-dispening god. I don't understand how anyone can call cats unfriendly. I've never met one that didn't love me. It's mutual.

Our cat gets a sample of whatever meat or fowl is being served for dinner. She is nuts for chips and crackers, but can only have a small taste every once in a while. Not real healthy for the kits.

Some cats like special dishes, some don't.

I used to chop up meaty treats for my kitties after food holidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving, Xmas etc. I don't even bother anymore, because my last few kitties don't show interest in anything that ain't Meow Mix.

Seriously, try cooked spinach. Both of ours go nuts over it, and one of them even loves raw spinach.

Avoid foods with garlic, onion, or other similar stuff that is bad for cats.

Pretty much this.  Our old gray gal will want a few bites of a scrambled egg once a week and a few shreds of any sliced beef, pork or turkey that gets carved, with gravy.  Our other cat will not touch anything but kibble.  She won't even eat canned cat food.

Yeah it's good to offer them plenty of greens. Some love cilantro. The others say it tastes like soap.

That only works if the cat has been socialized and played with mice before they are six weeks old - at that age they won't associate them as food yet. If they've never seen mice until they are older than that, it is almost guaranteed that it won't end well for the mouse.
