In an age where erotic Twilight fan-fiction becomes a bestseller, just what is plagiarism?

That said, I never thought I'd see a girl with mental issues write poetry. That's unique. She's very unique.

It's actually a genius bit of post-modern poetry. She was writing about her trauma BEFORE it happened. Her poetry predicts what she will go through after being discovered for what she did do. Very bold, genius, creative.

I kind of like the "not to end you... to end the bullshiat you're on" line. We could use more of that nowadays, to a point anyway.

How about, in her honor, we post our own terrible plagiarized poetry?  I'll start:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Lets get a pizza

What?
You dont like pizza?

I'm young, awkward, and have few real life experiences.  How can I liven up my life?  Oh, I know, I'll AW myself all over social media.  That's a game winning plan, right there.

I'm so glad I'm older than dirt.  When I was young enough to be this clueless, record keeping consisted of my diary.  Which was burned many years ago.

"As a writer myself, I understand the importance of the written word, and the creativity and ownership that goes into both poetry and prose. That is why I sent an apology note to Rachel McKibbens, to let her know how truly sorry I am for having borrowed her lines. It was a mistake, and I have learned a lot from having made it."

She's a turrible speller, too.  She misspelled "plagerizer" and "stole".

Should be "copied"
"Oh no, empty page! Someone stole my poem!"

When I was in college in the dark ages, a guy submitted some Pink Floyd lyrics for a poetry class.  The professor liked it so much he included it in the yearly literary yearbook.  Hilarity ensued.

Back in the day a local paper had a poetry page and someone cribbed the first stanza of "The Trees" by Rush. I think they ended the page soon after that. I always thought it was simple plagiarism, but now I'm wondering if it was just trolling.

Personally I consider tattoo unforgivable on an aesthetic level if not a moral one. I'd say she took the music out of author's words, pulled the teeth out of it, lessened the work when she rewrote it, and then went and put it in a really shoddy font. That must hurt

That's funny because that's almost exactly what happens in "The Squid & the Whale".  Which was supposedly Noah Baumbach's semi-autobiography, so I'm assuming that part really happened, too.  Guess Floyd does sound pretty impressive.

As an aside, I used to really enjoy poetry when I was younger, and was all about Plath, Baudelaire, and anything remotely similar.  Now that I'm older, I farking loathe poetry.  It all just comes off as pretentious bullshiat too me that is made purposefully abstract to confuse, rather than relate.

Just checked that wiki - the main difference was that it was "One of My Turns" and not "Hey You", but, yay The Wall! :-)

The original author of the poem said it well:

Where McKibbens draws the line, though, is the tattoo, which she considers unforgivable on an aesthetic level if not a moral one. "This Trapper Keeper, hollow bubble font," she says. "You took the music out of my words, you pulled the teeth out of it, you lessened the work when you rewrote it, and then you went and put it in a really shoddy font. That hurts."

My husband recited Mike Nesmith's song lyrics to "Tapioca Tundra" in school as an "original poem."

He got an A.

/Reader, I married him.
