Yeah, if you saw that game last night... they do not need him. That was a clinic.

Well he can just keep spending his days counting in a car hole by the motorway.

I wonder how much money he's cost himself with this stunt. And not just the money he left on the table this year, I mean that other teams aren't going to back up the Brinks truck for him if he's really that replaceable as well as flaky.

If he reports, great, he can help in the stretch and for the playoffs. If he doesn't, well...bye.

Steelers in postseason form?  Does that mean they're going to lose to the Pats, or the game before the Pats?

At this rate, Kaepernick is going to find a job before anyone's willing to sign Bell.

I thought I saw like 8.6M so far just for this season but yeah, probably a lot more in the long run. If he thinks he's gonna come back and get a long term deal for QB type money, he may be in for disappointment.

Who knows though, there may be a team or two out there still willing to back up the truck for him. Maybe the Cardinals or the Jets or something

No, they'll be a few teams that will pursue him...  Sure, RBs aren't used as often and as we've seen with Bell and Conner, they can help tremendously, but QBs are the ones that can demand the absurd money.  Is there a team that'll be willing to pay him?  I think some team will.

If he does report, it'll be interesting to see how he'll be integrated into the offense.  Tomlin is NOT a guy who splits reps between RBs.  But... both in the running game and receiving game, it might be interesting to have both guys in there on occasion.  It would give a defense nightmares.  Two great catching and running RBs plus Brown and Shuster?  That's a lot of weapons.

But they better leave Conner as the main guy.  He's earned it.

I can see Bell signing a 1 year deal with either GB or Seatle, and then goes for big money once he prooves he didn't lose a step.

but in reality, we all know he is going to sign with the stupid patriots.

The Steelers dont deserve that much credit, though. If they expected Connor to play like this they'd have just cut Bell instead of assuming he'd sign the tag after training camp.

What stunt ? He is betting on himself and that he deserves a long term contract for his services.

I am happy the Steelers found a replacement and I hope it means Bell can go and get paid elsewhere.

There is no good or bad in this scenario it's literally Billionaires and Millionares fighting over $$$$.

I found it chuckle-worthy that Tomlin is "concerned about the workload" of connor, but couldn't give a rats hairy ass on fire about abusing Bell and tagging him 3 years running.

The Smith-Schuster score was the franchise's longest-ever first play from scrimmage.

Huh. I would've guessed they'd had longer than 75 yd plays in their history. That surprised me.

he didnt sign the tender for the 3rd time, while technically you are correct, they did try for a third time. So if he shows up, its a 3rd...if he sits then yea, its just a 2nd.

some gambles really pay off, some dont. and it could still implode for the Steelers if he's released and Conner hits the IR any time before the post season. injuries happen at anytime.

leveon didn't foresee Conner being that good and it still remains to be seen if he really is or if their O line is just that good. either way he lost his spot and now his team. chalk it up to a failed gamble and move on spending a year or two repairing your name/value.

Pittsburgh has always had a penchant for making the running back, not vice versa. Other teams surely know this. Nobody high profile or in a good position will touch him now. Enjoy Cleveland, Leveon. Then enjoy crippling pain with all your money.

I'd find it even funnier if all that happened and the Steelers lost Conner for the year next week and they went on an immediate slide taking them out of the playoffs and Tomlin gets fired and Ben retires immediately in protest over his firing. That'd be a real hoot.

There is still guaranteed money in those non-guaranteed contracts. So its not like they can shiat-can you for absolutely nothing whenever they want, unlike the rest of us. That's usually the sticking point in contract negotiations; the better the player, the bigger the pile of guaranteed money.

Yeah, he said a few times that he would show and he didn't. Then there are the facts that his contract demands and his whining about the franchise tag are unreasonable. I don't hate him I'm just tired of his antics this season.

And playing pick-up basketball is exactly what someone without a current contract - and who is asking for a ridiculous contract from any team next year - should be doing with their time.

its mostly jealousy and that people hate when someone else attempts to make decisions for themselves.

Really woulda thought fark would be behind this whole, "strong, independent, black woman thing"...but, here we are ;-)

There are legit reasons some people don't like him, and some of it revolves around the way he handles himself off of the field and especially the way he is handling his contract.

I hate athletes who have signed a contract then hold out for more money.  Regardless of the sport, regardless of how much the owners are exploiting them, once they have signed a contract they report and entertain the fans.  I'm still bitter about Doug Gilmour walking out on the Flames halfway through a season 25 years ago to force a trade to the f*cking Maple Leafs.

In this situation, Bell isn't under contract.  He is under no legal or moral obligation to sign a one-year contract and risk his future playing for a team who wasn't willing to offer him a long-term deal with sufficient guaranteed money.  Even if it costs him more money in theory than the holdout gains him, it is his right to look after himself any way he sees fit.

Having said that, I think he should report on the last possible day.  Take a few weeks to get back into football shape.  If he has a few big games down the stretch and in the playoffs, that would help him get a better big new contract in the offseason than if he holds out the whole year.  But having said that, star NFL players who miss a whole year with injury often sign big contracts the following year, so it might not hurt him that much.

Mikey1969: brizzle365: snoopy2zero: I really dont get the hate for him. The guys plays in the one of roughest pro sports with no guaranteed contracts and decided to bet on himself when he realized the Steelers had no long term plans for him other than to get every yard they could out of him one year at a time.

its mostly jealousy and that people hate when someone else attempts to make decisions for themselves.

Really woulda thought fark would be behind this whole, "strong, independent, black woman thing"...but, here we are ;-)

There are legit reasons some people don't like him, and some of it revolves around the way he handles himself off of the field and especially the way he is handling his contract.

Some are just born to hate...i mean dance, yea, born to dance baby!

Tho, personally, I think its just jealousy or they went all in on their fantasy and drafted him 1st round

Bell isn't a black woman..

Have you personally checked?

ElwoodCuse: The Steelers dont deserve that much credit, though. If they expected Connor to play like this they'd have just cut Bell instead of assuming he'd sign the tag after training camp.

There was literally no scenario where they cut Bell. What a stupid and uninformed thing to suggest.
