They own Marvel and Lucasfilm, they could've hired the League of Assassins or Boba Fett to kill Murdoch and let Black Cat or Han Solo steal the whole company.

Disney didn't buy Foxnews, so they had no say who runs it, unlike AT&T & Comcast which still allow CNN & MSNBC to blather their own brands of stupidity and ignorance to the tens of people who watch those channels.

Well, I'm not keen on the fact that every studio/network thinks they have enough material to launch their own subscription service.

I have Hulu, Netflix, Fubo... I'm not keen about having to pay for 2 or 3 more streaming services.  To the contrary, I need to start cancelling some of these services and just leave maybe one - maybe netflix.

Huh?   He'd be running Fox News even if Disney didn't give him a cent.    I didn't see you trying to stop him either.

And for that matter, can you imagine what the media would be like if Fox News didn't exist?   You need checks and balances  There is no neutral side, hence, you have to balance one extreme with another extreme.   Thats just the way the country is constructed.  Until there is bi-partisonship, you need Fox News around.

Disney has the catalogue to bring all the boys to the yard, and their lives are better than yours, they could show you but they'll have to charge

Between the two Star Wars shows and the Winter Soldier/Falcon series I think Disney+ will be well worth it. I'm not terribly thrilled with the idea of everyone making their own streaming service, but Disney actually has enough stuff for it to be worthwhile in their case.

As soon as they put on the Tom Hiddleston as Loki show, I'm gonna be all "shut up and take my money!" There is zero chance I can resist that; I wouldn't even try.

Soon as the show ends, I'm outta there. We subscribe to way more than enough as it is.

What Fresh Hell Is This:

Why not cancel the other services then instead of this one?     I get that people have some type of brand loyalty, and for some inexplicable reason consider Netflix, the 'good guys'.     But really, the ONLY consideration for what service you keep should be the content.  Content is king.

The Disney app will have Disney/Disney Channel/LucasFilm/Marvel/Pixar/20th Century Fox/ and FX Channel, to name a few.....  I don't see anyone matching that content.

Need? What we need is quality journalism that delivers unbiased news without any agendas. But that's boring, so instead we eat up 24-hr editorials that masquerade as news and endlessly stoke our paranoia and anger.

We absolutely don't need Fox News, or CNN or MSNBC or any of the other "all outrage all the time" pundit playhouses, but we deserve them, because we're dumb and prefer simplified prepackaged narratives that don't challenge our worldviews and let us feel all self-righteous about everything.

Disney's new streaming service, called Disney+, will be launching late 2019. And the entertainment company is banking on Loki, Cassian Andor, and other characters in its vast portfolio to lure fans away from streaming champ and soon-to-be rival Netflix.

I honestly have no idea why anybody sees "the Disney Channel plus superheroes and Ewoks" as a credible threat to Netflix.

Even if you're a parent, if you really had to choose, wouldn't you want the one that also has stuff for ...ya'know, adults?

The adult stuff is the precise reason why they acquired 20th Century Fox.  Its one of the largest, if not largest, film libraries out there... .Plus all the TV.... FX, FOX, National Geographic.

I see you didn't bother to offer any examples of all this so-called great adult content on Netflix.  Care to share what you were referring to?

As usual the biggest threat to Netflix is still Netflix.

Disney is just trying to time it right for when the parents realize that the kids need something to watch after Netflix loses the Disney stuff. Should be good for a solid 20 million subscribers right off the top.

Disney has already said they will not have any R-rated content on their streaming service. All R-rated stuff from Fox, Touchstone, and Hollywood Pictures will go to Hulu.

What farking dipshiats are going to sub to a whole standalone platform? Fark everyone that does.

I think, like with their digital copy app, Disney Movies Anywhere, they waited too long. By the time that launched, VUDU and Amazon's video library feature on their prime app were already being pre-loaded on smart TVs, so ultimately, Disney Movies anywhere had to shift to being a consolidation app where people could merge their VUDU, Amazon, and iTunes libraries.

Netflix, Prime, and Hulu have become the "big 3" of streaming services. They're already well known, are prominently featured on most smart TVs, offer a shiatload of content, and cord cutters have settled in to paying a certain amount a month.

Plus, there's another issue: Most Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars fans already own the movies on DVD or Blu Ray. Disney has dominated the home video market for 30 years. What incentive are they offering to attract a customer base that already owns most of their famous products?

Disney's made it clear they're not putting anything on Disney+ that isn't family friendly, so right off the bat, Netflix's adult content is so-called better simply by virtue of the fact of actually having some.

I've got small kids, but if I really had to make the choice (lol I don't because I'm not poor), I'm going with the one that has shows me and the Mrs. like to watch as well -- Ozark, Altered Carbon, The Expanse, Black Mirror, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, about 90% of the standup comedy being made these days, a sizeable catalog of non-PG movies, etc. Their kid-friendly content is perfectly adequate, even without the Disney stuff.
