90 percent of Americans support background checks. Yet republicans in congress will do nothing because the NRA has them by the short hairs.

And what would happen to politicians who support gun control should it become a distinct possibility? I'm guessing a gun but would do what gun nuts do to people they don't like.

Facts don't matter in gun threads.  Pedantry, strawmen and semantics OTOH....

More the deep wallet, but yea, this.
The best thing you can do for gun control is election finance reform.

Gee, you think?

2018-11-09 07:19:10 AM
We should all stop gathering together in groups of four or more. That'll end the mass shootings.

2018-11-09 07:19:10 AM
Number of guns has remained the same what changed with mass shootings is the media glorifying the violence.

Voluntarily stop reporting it and it will stop. That simple.

Also can we change the newsflash tag to a mass shooting tag? That seems to be all it gets used for.

I never know whether what I read on Fark is poe's law parody or real, anymore.

2018-11-09 07:21:06 AM
But I think it may also stem from the culture of violence we have created in the country.  The idea that violence is the solution.  Have an argument, reach for your gun.  This has been pushed along by our never ending state of perpetual war.

no. in times of MMA and all those combat sports you also have to consider bioweapons where people strange folks walk around unarmed but armed with a deadly force due to those magic fists attached to shoulders carrying warheads equipped with some new and clear orders to follow. So even classical dancing like ballet should be consider as cover for such bioweapon industrial complex - think about Jean Claud Van Damme or Tony Jaa.

In other words this "fight club" is trying to take away weapons from people and install martial law by using martial arts.

Good luck changing the second amendment. Our founders put it in there for a reason. But if it bothers you so much then repeal that. Like I said, good luck.

In the interim, perhaps it would be a good idea to read up on the amount of lives saved by defensive uses of firearms.

Unless it's private sales in certain states, a background check is run.  If you mean mental health background checks you're running into the tightly controlled HIPPA laws.

The problem is not the guns. Finland has guns. Canada has guns. Switzerland has guns.

The problem is EASY ACCESS to guns.

Every other developed nation has controls on gun ownership: you have to be trained, you have to keep your gun in a safe location locked up and unloaded, and you have to have a license just like you have to do for a car.

The founders put it there because a) they had just fought the British and feared standing armies (see Amendment 3), and b) they wanted a civilian militia to put down any slave rebellions.

Oh please. You didn't have 13 people shot in 1888. There were what, four people shot at the OK Corral and it was so rare at the time we still talk about it.  Get out of here with this nonsense.

Well, here's the thing - a very great Republican once sid (and the one in the White House now certainly believes) that the Constitution is "Just a Goddamn piece of paper".
Now - as long as there are people in power like that, nobody's rights are safe.
At the point somebody wealthy and powerful decides they want your guns - they'll just take them. And you won't fight back when they do. If you are really concerned about your rights - gun, or otherwise - I'd suggest taking a good hard look at the sort of leadership we have.
We just had the POTUS ( a supposedly independent branch of government) hnd pick and install a SCOTUS justice based entirely on his willingness to shiat on the Constitution, and wipe his ass with it if the POTUS gets in legal trouble.
You aren't wrong to think that somebody will take your gun rights away.
You're just wrong to think it is liberals or progressives.

Can't hunt with it based on written laws, you don't need it. It's that goddamn simple.

And, if you can't protect your own guns then it will be done for you, get gun locks or a safe.

We need the Constitution ratified to completely remove the second Amendment.
Once that is done, the military and the police need to go to each and every house and do a door to door search and confiscation plan to collect all thew guns.
Once that is done, murders should drop to near zero.

Why do people take a left wing view, published by an arch-left wing publication, and treat it as though it is some kind of universal truth.

Stop looking for simple solutions. There aren't any. They make great slogans but they accomplish absolutely nothing.

In this case it look like PTSD may be behind it. Or, at least, that's the logo that people are pinning on it. If that is the case we need to do more to address the problem.

You don't address alchoholism by Prohibition. (We've been there, done that, failed miserably). You address it by dealing with the individuals.

8 years of Clinton, 8 years of Obama. Not ONE piece of legislation controlling guns even was voted on.

This should be a minimum given that there are 340 million guns out there.  I'm a gun owner but 100% this. If you're legal and upstanding you should have no problem with this.
