Stopping the votes from being counted is how the GOP got Dubya elected. It's like they're playing their greatest hits.

It's not the voters who count. It's who counts the votes that matters.

They also prevented a LOT of people from voting, fyi.  180,000 provisional ballots were tossed compared to 32,000 in 2012.  HALF of them were black voters despite them only making up 11% of the population (at the time).

They stole that election fair and square.

/it literally became a civil rights case.

The suit filed Wednesday by four county Republican parties alleges that the state's 15 county recorders don't follow a uniform standard for allowing voters to adjust problems with their mail-in ballots, and that two counties improperly allow those fixes after Election Day.

Smells like some Bush league shiat to me.

Krysten Sinema's probability of election is up to 31.8 percent at this hour, up 21.9 percent in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile in Florida, Bill Nelson's probability is up to 25.5 percent.

Yes, I'm saying there's a chance, and more to the point a much better one than even on Wednesday.

Incidentally, I kind of love Arizona's official election returns site.

I also learned that each electoral district for the Arizona house of representatives returns two representatives. Do Arizonans mark two choices or one in this case?

GOP: Most Americans love our policies. That's why we want to make voting as difficult as possible.

Here in Oregon we manage to verify signatures as the ballots come in, not after the election is over. WTF is wrong with you other states?

Sorry, I misread. Two choices are selected.

It's still stupid

Meanwhile in Florida, the governor's race is in recount territory.

Gillum conceded too soon. He can still ask for a recount, but my goodness what a self-own.

You'd figure that after Bush/Gore, Democrats would know better than to concede close races too early.

I voted by mail.  If the Democrats or ACLU need a client for the purpose of challenging this attempted voter suppression, I'm happy to assist.

Well, I'm sure that when these voter suppression lawsuits get to the US Supreme Court then Justice I LIKE BEER and his buddies will rule in favor of expanding voting rights. Right?

Arizona allows early ballots to be handed-in at any polling place. Honestly I did not know that there was an issue with signature validation, we used to do just this because it was easier than standing in line and having to remember which things on the ballot (don't forget we have judicial elections!) we wanted to vote in favor of or against. When there's a slate of fifty judges to go through in addition to the federal, state, county, school district, special-district, and municipal questions it takes an awful long time to vote in-person.

If they allow day-of hand-ins, then they need to count all of the ballots turned in that way, regardless of how long that takes, and they need to have the same signature-verifications procedures as the early-turned-in ballots.

I've never understood the pressure to concede/declare victory in a tight race ASAP? Let the votes be counted. There is still a current governor in place. It's not like the new guy will start tomorrow.

If Democrats complain about a voting procedure, it's somehow always too late and too close to the election to fix it, no matter how egregious the problem or how many judges order it fixed.
But Republicans expect their complaints to get attention immediately, even after the election.

At least Maricopa County allows you to check your ballot status online. If yours comes up as having been accepted and signature matched, you would probably be found to have no standing. You'd need to be one of the voters whose ballot was questioned, and my guess is they'd simply magically approve your ballot if you tried to join that suit, to again, give you no standing.

Out here in libby libby land (CA) our rep has not been called. We are notorious for slow counts. No one is filing suits or anything. We just take another hit and patiently wait.

Republicans are defending this by claiming their preferred solution is that all the counties go by the more forgiving standard, but since they didn't already before votes started being tossed there is no choice but use the strict rules in those two counties.

That's why I will not do mail in voting if there is a choice. My signature is never exactly the same over and over again.
I might have been tired, or hurried, or the pen was acting up.

So, blatant disenfranchisement then.  The GOP will never fail to declare that they are an organization of pure shiat.

Quite a strange position that ballots cast long before voting close time should not be counted.

If you registered to vote through your motor vehicle department, look at the signature on your driver's license and make it look like that.

That's why this is blatant disenfranchisement: everybody's signature changes. Hit back day hard? Too much coffee? Not enough? If you broke your arm you don't get to vote early?

On top of that, they're not hiring a bunch of handwriting analysis experts, they're eyeballing them, which means yours could be tossed on a whim.
