Anyone ordering a "hot dog sandwich" automatically gets reported to Homeland Security.

So go ahead, by all means, order one.

Someone in another thread just pointed out that soup served in a breadbowl is a sandwich, and my mind's going to be blown all day.

A hot dog is a dumpling. It's a cousin to the calzone, the empanada, the taco, the meat-pie, and the tamale.

And the pierogi, the pelmeni, the pasty, and half the things on the Dim Sum menu?

A hot dog sandwich is a hot dog, band and all, between two slices of bread, and you'd have to be a sociopath to order/eat that.

I'd say it's more of a hand pie.

Some of those are pastries, the others may be dumplings. None are sandwiches.

To say it's not a sandwich because the roll is not cut all the way through is ridiculous. That's like saying a hero is not a sandwich.

I read the headline and thought Subby was talking about the NPR guy, but it turns out they asked the NPR guy that, too.

/Technically a sandwich, but you'd never order it as such
//I mean, a sausage hoagie is a sandwich

So if I cut the roll all the way through, turn it on it's side and put the condiments and toppings between the wiener and the bread, it's a sandwich?

Heros get lettuce tomatoes onions and oil or mayo, so they get a pass based on volume of ingredients.

There's always that one piece of shiat bun in the package that breaks into two pieces. So at least one of the hot dogs will be a sandwich.
