When do we promote these rocks to "alien spaceship"?

After a bunch of Florida Men report being probed this weekend.

At this point I say, meh. Bring them on. Throw a blanket over the sun and lets call it a day.

I heard someone mention the rocks and spaceships in the same sentence before, so you can't rule out the possibility of it happening! there's a non-zero chance of them being alien spaceships.

This asteroid is predicted to measure between 13-28 metres across - suggesting the asteroid could be five times as tall as a giraffe!

Giraffes are a measurement unit now?

Yeah, if God's/Fate/FSM is done with us, I don't blame him/it.

Sure.  You can't measure everything in Statues of Liberty or Delawares.

Lots of measurements are represented on graphs.

I wouldn't mind a big, huge, enormous asteroid slamming into the Earth but only if it blew up the planet in one big gigantic boom. Nothing left, but dust.

Just get it over with in one quick moment. No suffering.

Only the smallest of the three is getting "close", and by close i mean the distance to the moon. The size of it (around 55 feet across) hitting a populated area would be like a bomb knocking down a city block. Fairly bad, but in the big scheme of things not gonna do much to anyone (just don't be around that city block). In other words, FEAR SELLS!

It's a 5 Giraffer asteroid.

NASA and subby. We need to have a talk about what "huge" and "close" mean when we're talking about world ending asteroids.

With any luck they'll all veer into us.

Just 16 minutes after 2018 VS1 passes our planet, another asteroid dubbed 2018 VR1 will swing by.

Wait, was the name Asteroidy McAsteroidface already taken?

The Mirror? I doubt if they even got the correct solar system.

Ehh, these are the sort that break up in upper atmosphere like a few years back on Russian dashcams. Not crater makers or Tunguska events.

well it could be a lot worse

2018-11-08 10:50:38 AM
Wow, one of them could be up to five giraffes tall!

I would imagine that if that one did hit the Earth that even after partially burning up in our atmosphere the remaining chunk would still be between one to three warthogs in size.

2018-11-08 10:51:28 AM
It doesn't matter, since even if any of them were going to hit us, it's not like we could actually do anything about it.  There's no Bruce Willis and Co. that we can send up there to blow it up, no defense system in place to alter its trajectory or destroy it, and there are no solid contingency plans in place for the survival of the human race in the event of impact.  When one finally does head our way, we're done.  Simple as; end of.

You went straight to warthogs? What happened to wildebeests?

Well having an asteroid shell around your spaceship would make it look pretty non suspicious, right up till ya start shooting.
It's not like humans are the only creatures to use camouflage.

Dangerously Close!!! Ok, not at all that close, really.

The giraffe size unit of measure seems more accurate than the d*** size unit of measure.
Many women have become bad at judging size because men have been telling them that
[                              ] is 8 inches for years. The d*** size measure is often skewed or inaccurate and frankly hard to truly use.

Username checks out.

Anyway...  "Distance to the Moon", huh?  I wonder what would happen if it HIT the Moon.  I wonder if the force would be enough to fark it up.

If you've never read Seveneves, now might be a good time.

30 meters is NOT an enormous asteroid.

Ceres is an enormous asteroid.
Vesta is an enormous asteroid.

This 30-meter rock is just a rock.

In a few years they'll be detecting pieces of gravel and calling them asteroids.  Seriously they need to start considering creating a categoty of dwarf asteroid or maybe just call them rocks. And of course name a grain of sand after Trump.

Pretty much, the only decision the government would have to make is do we keep this quiet as long as we can, or tell everyone and watch the anarchy begin now.
