Well, America's wang can be pretty unpredictable.

I'm sure Rick Scott's pulling out his hair wondering why he isn't doing better.  Oh...wait...

Gee...in Florida, I wonder why.

Wouldn't happen to have anything to do with Parkland, hurricane Micahel, or the fact the mail bomber appers to be from FL?

Well, to be fair, throwing that much ice into the ocean would make the water a lot colder.

Especially when all the extra freshwater lowers the salinity of the north atlantic, thereby disrupting the flow of that huge circulating ocean current that brings warm water from the equator. Which would result in a rather drastic plummet in temps for north america and europe

Swing-state governors would make a bad choice in 2020, given the possibility of losing veto power over redistricting if the resulting special election goes red.

If he was a combat vet he'd be an easy win.

My criteria for and easy dem win are P/VP noms that are:

1) double southern
2) double straight
3) P = white male, VP = not white male
4) at least one combat veteran
5) at least one fluent Spanish speaker
6) both have worked min wage jobs
7) at least one with a STEM degree (might be the hard part)

I work in an engineering group.  We were discussing the fact that none of them went off.  As engineers will, we began to speculate as to how we might have done better...until two of us suggested that we pursue a different topic of discussion. 1. Good luck finding them. Midwest (MI, OH, MN) and Mid-Atlantic (VA, MD, DE, PA) will provide the best bang for the buck.

2. There aren't that many prominent LGBT candidates in the first place.

3. Hillary being a woman didn't lose it for her, they need a sharp witted individual to get Trump to look weak in public.

4. Military experience is overrated. Right wingers toss that aside when a D is running with those creds.

5. It would be easier to get an actual Latino/Latina candidate for that. Don't settle for a facsimile if the real thing is there and is a good candidate.

6. I'm STEM. We can't do retail politics worth a damn. Data analytics for Democrats, we could do that. Inspire the base to vote? Maybe if Neil deGrasse Tyson or Bill Nye ran - but that's it.

The obstacle that political junkies cannot even focus on is that a very large proportion of the country is not paying close attention, and the worse politics gets the more they tune out. I don't know what the solution is, but I know that a laundry list of must-haves is not it. You have to get past the fact that most Americans won't know the things you list and if their opponent says the opposite, they're not going to research it. We know how many absurd things were said about Obama, and how they took root, for crying out loud. If there's one thing that makes Trump look more in touch with reality than most of his ostensibly smarter opponents, it's his unwavering faith that the vast majority of his fellow Americans aren't paying attention to public statements for more than a moment or two. The goal of saying things is to spread a random fragment of a claim and let people repeat it if they want, like a viral particle. Too many Democrats persist in thinking you're supposed to form complete thoughts in sentences and talk to people who are listening to entire speeches and shiat like that. That's not how reality works.

General.elections are a beauty pageant, not an intellectual contest. The side with the most emotional appeal has won the presidency in every election in my.lifetime, from Reagan in '80 onward.

Democrats often refuse to play that game, forgetting that the only qualification that matters is winning the electoral college, and the swing states swing based on appeals to emotion.

If resumes mattered, Clinton would have won. The Republicans even stated that during one of their debates. The people who matter are the ones who don't pay attention and then show up at the voting booth trying to listen to their guts.

America doesn't deserve Trump any more than any other group of people. I never suggested that there is something uniquely defective about the US in my description of the problem. Trump supposedly read Hitler's speeches, after all.
