If that AR barrel is under 16", he's gonna be looking at a dime in Club Fed to boot, as he doesn't look like the type to file proper NFA paperwork.

That is the face of a man who makes poor life choices.

A search of his vehicle turned up two more loaded handguns, a semi-automatic rifle, a pocketknife with a swastika on it, a bullet-resistant vest and a large amount of ammunition.

So he was Republican.  Makes sense.

That's exactly why I bought one. Just because it's different and fun. It's a gun that is okay at a few different things,  but not great at anything. But it's fun to have the option of .410 or .45LC.
Same reason I have a .50 Desert Eagle. Just fun to shoot. Nothing I would ever consider to be a serious defense weapon.

Yeah. Sold off most of my arsenal after prices jumped after sandy hook. I realized a wasr10 for fun and my 357 for... Sentiment were all I needed. And I was cold minded enough to see profit in tragedy. Hooray for personal sales aka gun-show loophole.

Serious question, I'm not trolling I promise:

When you say "a few different things," what are those things? Does it do more than just shoot a round of ammunition in a semiautomatic fashion?

It's why people drink cheap beer. Some people want lots, even if it's inferior. Some want quality even if it means quantity will be reduced.

That is not an arsenal.  That's a common number of firearms for a trip to the range.  The article also says "a large amount of ammo".  How much is that?  A typical range trip is 500 to 1000 rounds.

Still doesn't excuse being drunk.  Drinking does not mix with cars or guns.  No exceptions.

I occasionally enjoy trolling right wing sites with "small government" advocacy via banning people that own guns from collecting any welfare or disability payments. If they have money for guns and ammo, they don't need anything from the tax payers. Turns out they aren't really for small government.

One mile.  The closeness of the range is one of the reasons I am resistant to moving.

However, just because he's originally from South Dakota doesn't mean much.  Perhaps he recently moved.   Note, I am in no way defending him.  Drunk, loaded guns, in a car -- toss his ass in jail and take away the guns.  I just have issues with how guns are reported.  I remember one news article that called two pistols, a shotgun, and 200 rounds of 9mm "an arsenal".

It's a revolver that will shoot a .45LC (.45 caliber Long Colt (long being the cartridge case length, think cartridge in the loops from a cowboy movie) Colt being the original manufacturer) or a .410 shotgun shell (very small compared to say a 12 gauge (typical round when one hears 'shotgun')).

Because the barrel is so short it's not inherently accurate with the pistol round and wouldn't be good for much other than shooting a snake right at your feet with the shotgun.  Plus Taurus isn't a high end manufacturer. Ok, but not great/really good.

I would consider it mainly a conversation piece to own once you already had a bunch of more specific firearms.  Not something for any serious work.

Shoots different kinds. You can use it to shoot .410 shotgun rounds or .45 cowboy rounds.  So it can be a standard revolver or a mini shotgun.

Cool your jets.

The photo in the article shows an AR with a relatively short handguard and what appears to be the start of a suppressor which goes out of frame and under a bag.

So, it could be a short-barreled rifle with a can on it. Or, because some people think function follows form, it could be a short barrel with a fake can pinned a welded to bring the overall length of the barrel over 16 inches. (All looks, no other purpose)

There are actual integrally-suppressed firearms where the barrel and suppressor are, together, just over 16" (which saves you one $200 stamp), but the only ones I've seen are .22 target rifles.
