Rattlehead: If they accidentally killed him, then why did they have a bone saw?

Bad phone connection. That one was supposed to bring the coleslaw for the embassy potluck.

Subtonic: Rattlehead: If they accidentally killed him, then why did they have a bone saw?

What. You don't keep a bone saw handy? Hell, I got one in my trunk, next to the zip ties and duct tape.

You gotta be careful, of you're going to keep a bat the old rule was to keep a baseball and glove too...so I don't know maybe you should keep a cadaver in your trunk?

So this is what Piggy meant by "rogue agent." He was tipped off. There must be video and audio, and it must be horrific.

Next step is for kings to start complaining they're not allowed to be kings any more.

The report is intended, per CNN, to absolve the Saudi government of responsibility for the murder by claiming the operation was not cleared.

So a bunch of guys showed up as the Saudi Embassy, and no one bothered to ask why they were there.
A reporter made an appointment to meet these people who had no business being there, and no one bothered to ask why.
That bunch of guys met the reporter, beat him to death, and parted out the body like a ford farkus ... and no one bothered to ask why.

How many people die and have their bodies disposed of in your embassy that an extra one doesn't draw enough attention to stop it?

It's not like they could keep denying it forever, he walked in and never came out. They tried to play dumb at first and denied it all. If he was being detained they would have come out and said as much. They got caught red handed and this interrogation gone wrong BS is only the latest lie. You don't fly in forensic experts to conduct an interrogation of a journalist.

Oh, and in case you didn't know how this ties back to Trump, it turns out that Jamal Khashoggi was banned from Saudi Arabia, what got him banned was being critical of Trump.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/saudi-arabia-donald-trump-journalist-banned-for-criticising-us-president-elect-a7456956.html

We aren't going to do a damn thing about it because the Saudi's own Trump (along with a half dozen other countries) and the fact that this poor guy wrote articles that hurt Trump's feelings.

mithras_angel: The 'admission' hinges on them saying, "Yeah, he died, but we only ~meant~ to torture and kidnap him."

And they just happened to have bone saws and users thereof handy?

Kidnapping and torture? Heavens no! They just wanted to escort him back to Saudi Arabia against his will and interview him with a pair of pliars. He would have probably made it out with most of his fingers intact if he played along. Clearly it was a bad apple that killed him and will be severely punished.

2018-10-15 3:53:38 PM
I wonder if Trump will now go from "Maybe it was rogues" to "It was an accident and they admitted it" as an excuse not to enact any punishment against them.

2018-10-15 3:53:45 PM
Who hasn't gotten a little over-enthusiastic while interrogating someone and killed them? Then you're all like "Oh shiat oh shiat oh shiat," so you dismember the body. Granted, that probably wasn't the right thing to do at the moment, but when you're freaking out, I think it's understandable. Let's have some sympathy here for the real victims, these poor men who will have to live with Khashoggi's death on their hands. Really, it wasn't very considerate of him to just up and die like that. Very rude.

/So now that they admit they killed him, everything's OK now, right?

Nine hours ago Saudi Arabia didn't know they had planned his forced extradition two weeks ago. Easy mistake to make.

They were very convincing talking to Trump, believe me.

"Extraordinary rendition." "Enhanced interrogation."

Sorry, we lost our goddamned moral high ground when we not only coined these phrases, but used them to justify the kidnapping, torture, and, yes, death, of people in other countries. We've already listened to our own leaders incite violence against journalists.

If the United States wants to officially protest this, we're going to have to pull the beam out of our own eye before we start plucking motes across the globe when it comes to this kind of sanctioned activity.

2018-10-15 3:56:12 PM

NutWrench: You don't bring along forensics expert to clean up the mess if all you meant to do was interrogate him.
Nothing "went wrong." It went exactly how it was supposed to.

Yep. And not just a forensics expert, but a lieutenant colonel, and just about custom-built expert on what they needed here:

One of the 15 Saudis named by Turkish officials as being involved in the disappearance of a journalist last seen entering a diplomatic consulate in Istanbul is a forensic expert known for pioneering rapid and mobile autopsies, according to Arab media reports and his own academic writings. Salah Muhammed al-Tubaigy flew into Istanbul shortly after Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate and flew out nine hours later, Turkish officials say.

The alleged presence of Tubaigy, who has taught and published papers on gathering DNA evidence and dissecting human bodies, amplifies a macabre narrative put forth by Turkish investigators that a team of Saudis killed Khashoggi and then dismembered his body to conceal the murder.

2018-10-15 3:56:39 PM
CNN's Arwa Damon reported from Istanbul that the report will most likely conclude "the operation was carried out without clearance and transparency, and that those involved will be held responsible."

When you say that the problem with some of your employees killing a reporter is that they didn't get an OK from the boss and keep him in the loop, then that just makes everyone think the only problem is they didn't file the right forms - not that they killed someone.

look, you never know when you'll have to haul around some lumber or sticks or PVC pipe or something, and those bone saws are just damn handy for trimming them down to size in a pinch.  I'm surprised you don't have a bone saw laying around just in case.

2018-10-15 3:57:08 PM
See it was just some overzealous staffers, and I'm sure they'll promise not to kill Khashoggi again. So everything's square, right?

Looks like they might be going with the 'overzealous special ops squad' defense.

Sure more than a dozen guys flew two planes to Turkey, took over the consulate for a day, interrogated and murder a journalist who had been saying mean things about the government, but the government had nothing to do with this terrible, yet beneficial to us murder.

The part that makes them responsible for his death is saying he left the embassy alive. If I tell the police a guest left my home alive, yet it's proven that the guest was murdered in my home and didn't leave alive, that makes me guilty as an accomplice at least even if I didn't kill the guest myself.

He died of a heart attack. As a hacksaw is commonly used in butcher shops, they did the logical thing and cut the body up for easy cheap shipping back.

If it were just government vs government plausible deniability would let them get away with it because president pussythroat wants them to get away with it.  Now admittedly both parties have been fine with Saudi Arabia from a government position for a long while, they're a useful asset in the area and have money.  But outside of government circles liberals of all stripes have been critical of Saudi Arabia and our connection to them for a while before this, and 'conservatives' of the economically anxious variety have as well.  It's really only the government, who has always treated them with kids gloves as a necessary evil, and the conservative elite who are fine with ignoring all the problems with them.

Just wanted to spell that out early for the 'hurrr oh now that it's a lamestream media elite dying suddenly the lieberals all care' idiot before he shows up.  Just because you don't pay attention doesn't mean you can pull a Trump 'Did you know?  A lot of people don't know' when you suddenly do pay attention.
