Maybe it was just a false sense of security. WAPO was heavily pro-invading Iraq back in the day.

In November of every even-numbered year since at least 1970, the biggest lie in American politics has been Democrats claiming that Republicans are going to take away your Social Security.

Stopped reading right there. A quick google search...

Dec 13, 2016 Republicans propose raising the retirement age, other changes to Social Security
DECEMBER 7, 2017 U.S. Republicans sharpen knives for retirement program cuts
04/13/11 GOP senators: Raise retirement age to 70
MARCH 10, 1983 ROLL-CALL VOTE IN HOUSE ON RAISING RETIREMENT AGE TO 67

So the Kock brothers study that showed medicare for all would save the US $7 billion in government spending over 10 years compared to continuing the current policies was wrong.
Republicans talk to the kock brothers  about how they should vote, maybe ask them about it.

Here's the truth about health care:

No one gives a f*ck about you.

End of truth.

Reality, medical billing and overhead cost is the difference in pricing between US and European medical care. If you can remove that third-party waste, you can make things more affordable.

Obamacare was a 1st, FIRST, step in doing that. It was a placeholder with more to follow. When they kill that, we'll be back where we were and much worse off.

I have VA healthcare, and it's not top tier, but I do not have many complaints. If I wanted more, I could buy Federal Blue Cross coverage. So far, I have felt that I've gotten what I've needed with baseline government healthcare.

I'd recommend we try that kind of thing with the whole population $50-75k per capita and under and see how that goes.

We need to do something and hoping the "free hand of the market" will solve all things is just stupid. It's beyond stupid, it's criminal because they know it is a lie and know they will profit from it whilst everyone else gets screwed.

Provide a baseline of healthcare, increase the payroll tax to pay for it, employers can increase their wages to make up for the reduced spending on healthcare... It should almost be a wash.

Republicans haven't been able to fully repeal and replace Obamacare, but they have worked to reverse negative trends. According to a report Thursday from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, "the average premium for second lowest cost silver plans (SLCSP) for the 2019 coverage year will drop by 1.5 percent, the first time average premiums have dropped since the implementation of the Federally-facilitated Exchange in 2014." That doesn't mean the battle is over, and it doesn't mean that we don't need better coverage options in America. But Democrats don't have any answers.

I need to just walk away or Ima break my caps lock key off in this asshole's piehole.

I just sent the following e-mail to the Washington Post:

Subject: Concerns about your Op Ed Pieces

Hello, I am a progressive and a lifelong supporter of the Democrats.
Why are you posting material from people like Marc Thiessen or Ed Rogers?
Is your intention to get Trump re-elected? To keep the Republicans in control of Congress?
These Op Ed pieces are partisan attacks on the Democratic Party's goals and accomplishments.
You are in a position to shape history. Use your tools more wisely.

NewportBarGuy: We need to do something and hoping the "free hand of the market" will solve all things is just stupid. It's beyond stupid, it's criminal because they know it is a lie and know they will profit from it whilst everyone else gets screwed.

Once you realize that those who argue about the so-called 'free hand of the market' fixing things are saying they want to leave people to die, it all makes sense.  Because if you go by the market, health care is a net loss as far as business and profit, outside of the few people that are lucky enough to be able to either a. afford it outright or b. somehow are able to afford the cost of decent health insurance.

It's one reason why the Republicans and right wing want to get rid of the social safety net.  They believe that taking care of the citizens of the US that aren't independently wealthy is a bad thing, and therefore the government shouldn't be doing it.  Their entire argument against the safety net hasn't changed since SS was created back in the 30's and Medicare/Medicaid were created in the 60's.

Marcus Aurelius: When do we get a public healthcare option like civilized countries do?

When we demand it en masse and vote people out who deny it to us.

So, never. Because Americans don't demand the best of anything. We proudly stand up and yell "feed me shiat" and call it freedom.

They also don't explain that the only reason why there has been a drop (even after premiums have gone up) is due to the fact that the administration hasn't done any more damage to the ACA yet.  Should they be able to get rid of the pre-existing conditions part and a few other cost cutting measures, then even if they don't get rid of the ACA, it will be gutted to the point that it will go into a massive death spiral.

That's a great comparison.

I fell and broke my shoulder a few years back. Town Fire provides free EMS to the hospital included in our property taxes..... So, I know not really "free". Great stuff.

I was in a car crash a few years before that and was transported just for observation (about the same distance from incident to hospital, but different towns)... The bill for that was $1,200... I fought it down to $800, but ouch!!!

The American public will buy it cause they don't understand how stupidly complicated our elections are.

Since it's Friday, the coffee hasn't kicked in, and I'm already in dgaf mode for the day so I'm too lazy to look it up... The packed courts you refer to are all of the conservative/heavy conservative judges the administration has been putting in place, right? I fully understand the dangers of that and the issues it'll be causing for the immediate future but, though I'm pretty sure I'm conflating two separate things in my head right now, doesn't each administration get the option to wipe out/replace judges like this at the start of their term? If that's the case, then if we vote in a Democratic administration in 2020, wouldn't the new president be able to replace the judges the current administration is packing in now?

Come to think of it, is it that there are vacancies from retirements and so on at the beginning of each presidential term and the incoming administration is just filling those gaps and not actually removing anyone? The balance can still be thrown out of whack, like it seems to be currently, but only from appointments and not dismissals?

I realize the googler machine is right there in another tab patiently waiting for me to feed it more data for statistics, but yeah, feeling lazier than normal today.

It's a shame that something which works for every single industrialized nation in the world can't work for the US. Are you wing-nuts ready to say that the US fails at something rest of the world has already succeeded in?

When are Americans going to call BS on this BS?  I can understand using that gibberish in the 70s, in Britain, Harley street opposed the NHS with the same fanaticism, but the British people just told them to get on the bus or get under it.

In the US, single payer works for everyone but the GOP, whose income relies heavily upon donations from the insurance industry and big pharma companies.

It has been 50 years since the world has accepted that health care is a national responsibility to the taxpayers who pay for the country to function, why is this still a goddamned debate in the US?   JFC, even third world countries are coming on board when they can afford it.
