They were given a stern recap about which rules they broke then banned for life.

I'm sure that stern recap about which rules they broke did everything necessary to turn them into completely responsible gun owners and nobody should have any concerns whatsoever about their ability to safely handle firearms. Hopefully they have permits allowing them to carry concealed handguns wherever they go so they can do their part in creating a safer America.

There's not much else the range can do., They're not law enforcement, and they have no power to do more than just yell at them and ban them for life.

I mean, I might have been a dick about it and called the cops first, since I saw a guy point a gun at another guy's head, and I would have no trouble sleeping if a jackass who potentially endangered the life of another in a stupid stunt had to face consequences.

Csb. Eight years ago I was shooting my cz52 on a slow Tuesday morning at an outdoor range. One other shooter beside me. As I was taking my time, breathing my sights, I start to see movement on my right. What the hell... There's this dude walking down range holding his target, while the two of us are shooting?!! I yell range is cold (wrong call, I just kind of panicked) at the top of my lungs, which got everyone to stop and the range officer to run out from his shack and proceed to ream this moron out (and me for the wrong call).
The guys response? "I saw where you where hitting, you weren't going to hit me (referring to me)." Lol I've never been more trusted in my life.

OK genius, what else should they have done?

It's an all too common occurrence to be at the range and some dumb shiats will show up, rent a gun, then start breaking basically every rule the range has. This, though, is whole new levels of stupid from what I've seen.

I'm just hoping the response isn't, "OMG, it's not like I would have pulled the trigger!!!  That's it!!!  2 selfies a day with a loaded gun pointed at our heads for a year to show those jerks that they're just being stupid!!!"

Accidents are accidents because they aren't planned.

Rule #1: Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.

It doesn't matter if it's unloaded and you're sure it's unloaded.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: Not everyone should have a gun.

I agree, which is why I'd prefer the cops arrest the guy and put him through the ringer. The only way to stop the stupid ones like this is to put serious consequences out there for doing stupid and overly dangerous shiat.

Same reason I think that any parent who's child gets ahold of their firearm and injures or endangers someone should face charges for, at the very least, negligence that becomes an instant denial to own a firearm.

If you can't behave responsibly, and you endanger other people, you get a first-hand look at the criminal justice system.

Well, technically he pointed a firearm at another person which, imho, should be criminal negligence, if not brandishing a firearm or other lower-class felony.  This guy could also be barred from owning guns if the cops took the step to arrest him and then they bothered to prosecute.

CSB. I was a range officer at an outdoor range about eight years ago.  I remember a slow Tuesday morning with only a few shooters. One of the shooters was sure taking his time, breathing his sights when this super special soldier starts walking down the range firing at his target.  The other idiot yells "range is cold" (Seriously?  it's Texas in early fall, its not cold) at the top of his lungs. Well, that got everyone to stop shooting finally (idiots). So i run my ass out of the shack and proceed to ream out the dude walking down the range (and that slow shooter wannabe meteorologist). Their response? They both laughed about it and made plans to conceal carry to karaoke night the next day.
I've never felt more left out in my entire life.

Texas isnt even one tiny little bit as gun crazy as Missouri is. Its quite a refreshing change actually.

"Assault by pointing [a gun]" is an A1 misdemeanor in NC (dunno if it's like that in other states; 10 seconds of Googling told me nothing).

Since "assault" is the imminent threat of bodily harm + the apparent ability to cause it - the classic example is "raising my fist is assault, throwing a punch afterwards is assault and battery" - it would seem that pointing a gun at someone meets that definition even if both parties "know" the gun is unloaded.

Then again, when gun laws are rarely, if ever, enforced against white guys who understand what they did was wrong and are super sorry (or if they pointed firearms at law enforcement during an armed standoff, but only did it to save some asshat from paying the grazing fees he owed the Federal government), I'm guessing this kind of horesplay with guns goes similarly unpunished.
